(Adds confirmation of Ericsson meeting)
BERLIN, Feb 7 (Reuters) - The chief executive of Sweden's
Ericsson will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel
next week, a government spokesman said on Friday, amid debate in
Berlin over how best to regulate foreign providers of telecoms
equipment.
Borje Ekholm's meeting on Feb. 13 comes amid calls from some
German lawmakers to ban China's Huawei, the global
leader in telecoms networks, on national security grounds.
Sources earlier said Finland's Nokia would also
send a representative to meet Merkel, although the company has
not commented on the report.
Nokia is the world's No.2 supplier of telecoms equipment,
followed by Ericsson.
