Cineworld delays UK, US reopenings to end of July

Tue, 30th Jun 2020 07:39

(Sharecast News) - Cineworld said on Tuesday that it will delay the reopening of its cinemas in the UK and US to the end of July "in line with recent adjustments to the schedule of upcoming movie releases".
The company, which announced earlier this month that UK and US cinemas would reopen on 10 July, has pushed the date back to 31 July. However, it will continue to reopen cinemas in its other markets as previously stated on 16 June.

"Upcoming reopenings remain subject to final clarifications and confirmation in relation to various government Covid-19 restrictions," it said.

The cinema chain said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow any changes to regulations or guidance from public health officials.

Chief executive officer Mooky Greidinger said: "Movie fans around the world continue to be excited by the strong slate of summer films ahead, including Tenet, Mulan, A Quiet Place Part II, Unhinged, The Broken Hearts Gallery, Bill & Ted Face the Music, Greenland, and Antebellum as well as a special re-release of Christopher Nolan's Inception on IMAX.

"Cineworld looks forward to welcoming these moviegoers back to our cinemas next month and believes that they will once again be immersed in the timeless theatrical experience they know and love."

Cinemas in the UK are officially allowed to open on Saturday 4 July as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
