Ivermectin, also known by the name of Stromectol, is an antiparasitic drug that is used by both humans and animals. It's an antiparasitic with a wide range of properties that may be used to treat a wide range of ailments. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently included it in their list of essential drugs. This antiparasitic treatment belongs to the Anthelmintic class, which shocks or kills parasitic worms or internal parasites without affecting the host.
Ivermectin kills parasites by causing an overabundance of neurotransmitters to be released in the parasite's peripheral nervous system. It works by paralyzing the parasite's stomach, rendering it inactive and killing the larvae, allowing them to be removed from the host quickly and efficiently. Ivermectin is considered to attach to proteins produced by juvenile worms, inhibiting the immune system of the host and allowing white blood cells to kill the worms after the immune system has recovered. The growth of adult worms is also halted, which reduces their symptomatic influence on the body.
How to take Ivermectin?
This medicine's dose is decided by the patient's weight and the ailment being treated. Ivermectin is most commonly applied as a cream, but it's also available as oral tablets, which take a little longer to work, or as a subcutaneous injection, which works much faster. Ivermectin levels reach their peak between 2 and 5 hours after injection. It has an 18-hour half-life and is mostly removed in the feces, with a trace left in the urine. It's important to remember that, although having a significant effect on parasites in the human body, it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier, making it a very safe pharmacological alternative.
Correct dosage of Ivermectin
These tablets are used to treat ascariasis (a mite infestation) and animal heartworms in veterinary medicine. In humans, Ivermectin 12 mg is used to treat parasitic infections such as head lice and scabies. This drug is required for both Strongyloidiasis, a roundworm infection, and river blindness, a parasitic illness caused by the worm Onchocerca Volvulus. It's also used to treat illnesses like heartworm and whipworm, as well as lymphatic filariasis, a worm-borne disease that affects humans.
It is vital to understand how to use Ivermectin correctly in order to treat the problem more effectively. Ivermectin tablets should be taken with a full glass of water once a day. The dose should be taken in the morning around an hour before breakfast. The dose is normally repeated every 6-12 months, depending on the severity of the condition and the practitioner's treatment technique. A corticosteroid is administered in addition to Ivermectin to people with Onchocerciasis or river blindness to relieve the agony caused by the worms' demise. River blindness is treated with 150mcg per kg in adults, teenagers, and children weighing more than 15kg.
