Spin Doctors: Room for positive & negative news

Thursday, 26th November 2009 09:34 - by Boredmum

Spin Doctors; not the band, but I’m thinking more in public relations terms. They put a ‘spin’ on whatever or whoever they want to push to a prominent position. It got me thinking; that is all we do on bulletin boards (chat forums) when we publish information on a company. You see, we can put whatever spin we want on it. You search for information on a company and, as a holder of their shares, you are happy to post information that you find to be in a positive light. So you search and you find something negative - do you decide to post? If you are holding the shares, the last thing you want is for the share price to fall. A lot of people are so positive that they are accused of ‘Ramping’. If a poster finds a negative article they are accused of ‘De-ramping’. I personally find that these words are thrown at people too easily. Again, from a personal point of view, if I have a thought that bothers me in some way I usually put it out there for either clarification or debate. Bulletin boards (chat forums) should be about clarification, debate, positive news, and negative news. Putting all our information out there and allowing investors to make educated choices about what is right for them. After all, if the company you choose to invest in is a sound choice then debate shouldn’t rock the boat.
