After reading the detail on the UK-RTC website, I’m starting to have a slightly different viewpoint on the intentions of the UK-RTC/Gov testing strategy. Given the commercialisation of the kit, and now seemingly being made available for companies to purchase, maybe the Gov are going to endorse the kit, allowing it to form part of an immunity passport for a period of up to 3/4 months before a new test is required, rather than actually stumping up the cash to pay for the kit and distribute it itself.
From a cost point of view, they’ll save billions, and pass that cost on to companies who will want the test for as many employees as possible to get the economy working again.
My gut feeling is we won’t see a government order, but we will see a government endorsement now, which will carry a lot of weight with international sales and and at home. Imagine, you can buy a £50 kit from Superdrug or you can buy a £13 government approved kit, that allows for foreign travel without quarantine.. where do I sign?
Possible but the new gov target of 500K per day - haven't the government admitted this is both antigen and antibody. To get any where near this they would need the RTC kit (and others). So IMO - the orders are coming - In addition to the corporate orders you mention
From the abc19 website..
‘The test can be administered by healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists and healthcare workers, and will detect SARS-CoV-2 IgG neutralising antibodies to determine if a person has had the virus.’
pharmacists...
‘ The test is available for large scale commercial distribution but is not available to individuals to purchase at this stage’
government won’t place a direct order; they’ll approve it, and let boots, lloyds and other large pharmacies knock it out for a fixed profit margin.
I could be wrong, but handjob and Bozo won’t be dipping into their pockets to pay for our Antibody tests. We want to travel, employers want to get us back to work... we will end up paying for the test
"Possible but the new gov target of 500K per day - haven't the government admitted this is both antigen and antibody."
The 500k (or is it 1 million, or another random figure plucked out of the air by Hattie Manc0ck, the Bloviating Buffoon or Dildo Harding when questioned?) is the total theoretical capacity across all testing pillars and types - molecular, antigen and antibody.
At present, there are only c. 5,000 antibody tests being done each day (using the somewhat second rate Fortress test). There has to be significant growth in this area in order to enable:
(a) wider reopening of businesses; and
(b) at the appropriate time, the roll out of any vaccine.
At present, there is only one antibody test that meets the standard - the UK-RTC AbC19 test.
You’re right chuggley, they have set a target of 500k tests per day. But like anything they say, they’ve left enough wriggle room.
I don’t think they’ve said directly UK Gov will do 500k tests per day, they’ve set the target. Typical bozo
But imagine the spin from Bozo; Brexit talks going south, he can launch this with such a fanfare.. Uk leads the way in covid diagnostics, we’re making Britain great again yada yada yada. Won’t have the same impact if he stumps up x billion quid to pay for our tests, would look like a government project.
