Any views on the complete nacelle burn on Borssele wind farm last week? Still unknow cause but this is an 8MW direct drive turbine, one of the newer generation. Hope it doesn't turn out to be an inherent issue as there are hundreds of them around the world :/

" 114 wind turbines that will make up the Seagreen offshore wind farm in Scotland.
The fluid immersed distribution transformers, for which Siemens Energy said were designed to meet high efficiency requirements, will transform the low voltage of produced electricity to the medium voltage level of 66 kV needed to feed the offshore transmission substation before going to mainland with an even higher voltage.
The transformer voltage class of up to 72.5 kV would enable larger power capacities, such as provided by MHI Vestas’ 10 MW offshore wind turbines, while keeping energy losses low, according to the supplier.
Siemens Energy, which will deliver the transformers from its factory in Weiz, Austria, said the solution was specifically designed for MHI Vestas’ needs for a lightweight and compact solution that passes through the opening in the tower base without disassembly.
“Siemens Energy worked closely together with us to develop a customized design transformer that perfectly fits our demands for an energy efficient solution with minimum footprint”, said Robert Slettenhaar, Vice President, Head of Procurement and Category Management at MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. “The transformers represent a critical component in our wind turbines and I am glad that with Siemens Energy we found a reliable and experienced partner for this significant project”.
The transformers feature a novel cooling solution and a highly efficient winding arrangement, and will be filled with safe and biodegradable ester insulation fluid as an alternative to conventional mineral oil.
MHI Vestas won a contract for the supply of 114 of its 10 MW units for the Seagreen project, for which it will also provide service and maintenance under a 15-year agreement. The wind turbines will be delivered in different load optimised modes to adapt to grid requirements for the 1,075 MW offshore wind farm.
Turbine installation is scheduled to start in the second half of 2021, with Cadeler (formerly known as Swire Blue Ocean) to carry out the work.
Seagreen, owned by Total and SSE Renewables, is located some 27 kilometres off the Angus coast in Scotland and is expected to be operational in 2022/2023."

The drones were being used to deliver 3-4kg packages, with challenges identified as avoiding nacelles and blades, the impact of winds, and the effect of steel structures on a drone’s navigation systems."

58 Siemens Gamesa 8.4 MW turbines, 55 of which are now in place. This is according to social media posts from Aspiravi, one of the project owners, which also said 52 of the installed wind turbines were producing power.

"69 wind turbines with power ratings of 11MW with rotor diameters of 200 metres, to supply at least 3.3TWh per year.
Shell and Dutch energy company Eneco won a tender to build the subsidy-free 759MW Hollandse Kust Noord. They plan to use some of the project's output to power a 200MW electrolyser.
The two companies, who combined as Crosswind consortium, said the project would be online in 2023.

Global Wind Turbine company Siemens Gamesa wins 3 extra projects for behemoth turbine blades in Sweden.
"Siemens Gamesa has signed a new deal for its 5.X platform in Sweden, further consolidating these wind turbines as the leading technology in one of the largest and most sophisticated wind markets in the world. The company will deliver seven SG 5.8-170 and four SG 5.8-155 to wind power developer Eolus Vind AB in a highly customized solution. Both companies have worked closely together to optimize the configuration of the wind turbines, which will be delivered in different power ratings thanks to the OptimaFlex technology, as well as varying tower heights.
The wind turbines will be delivered to three different sites: Rosenskog (17,8 MW), Dållebo (26,4 MW) and Boarp (24,2 MW), all located in southern Sweden, close to the city of Jönköping. Installation is scheduled for 2023 and all three projects will be covered by a 15-year service agreement. Both in terms of installed capacity and rotor diameter these will be the largest wind turbines Eolus has used to date.
Since its debut order in the country back in December of 2019, the company has accumulated deals totaling over 431 MW for its Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform in Sweden. The Siemens Gamesa 5.X combines the best of the company’s engineering schools, producing a technologically superior wind turbine built on proven solutions to reduce risks. Once commissioned, the eleven units of the platform will generate enough clean electricity to meet the demand of over 56,000 European households and avoid CO2 equivalent to taking 113,000 diesel cars off the roads."
