oli if I was a manager I would give overtime to the ones I could trust.. end of
Wolves there had been no disagreement thus far let's not be the cause please.
ispy I agree with you... casuals should not be let loose on a walk.....
Back in the day, the rule used to be that if you refused overtime on 3 consecutive occasions then you were dropped to the bottom of the pecking order but this was dropped when RM decided not to use seniority lists to offer overtime or allocate annual leave. It has to be done on a "fair and equal" basis now.
Oli. Taking up the slack is sensible forward planning. Am I mistaken in that Anguard is actually part of the RMG setup. If so they are paying themselves
@ Redceo.
I have no idea whether it "has" to be offered to employees first.
@ wolvesposty.
Correct. They don't use high street any more. Its angard staff. But you will still pay twice.
One other thing. Much the same as us posties. If they go over they get paid.
I was told by a manager that it took 3 casuals to do one round. And that was this year.

thats the difference red me and the likes of yourself and others can disagree but not in the slightest fall out and name call.... etc etc
Wolves. My thinking exactly. If an employee refused as opposed to, couldn't do overtime. I would think twice about offering it in future.
Splitting hairs? My comment about 2x was clarifying what Isle actually said in order not to cause a disagreement.
Red, my understanding is that Angard casuals are employed to pick up the slack when RM staff have been fully utilised. Usually overtime is offered to RM staff first however there are an increasing number of RM staff who do not want overtime for a varying number of reasons. Angard are paid more than the standard OPG rate as the agency takes a cut however it is still cheaper as RM do not incur the "hidden costs" such as pension contributions, uniform, PPE and sick pay.
red you splitting hairs again?
red we are having a few that working to time at present and when dispute is done and dusted will want to return to the old days of overtime.... hope rmg have long memories
Hi wolves. Isle didn't actual say 2x he said twice
they deal with angard so I believe and its not 2x the going rate
Isle thank you for the clarification. However I assume (perhaps wrongly) ? that RMG are paying the agency a rate equal to or below the RMG workers hourly rate.
Out of interest. If the employee is not obliged to work overtime and the employer is entitled to employ agency staff to fulfill the task. Is the employer obliged to offer the overtime to the employee?
isle royal mail don't use high st agencies and pay twice the going rate. think they pay 12.50 per hour... may be wrong
isle in our office we all worked an average of an hour overtime today.... not sure about the militant ones mind....
@ Redceo.
I believe the agency is paid. They then pay the casual. So if you look at it in literal terms, RMG will be paying twice.
Once for the agency and once for the casual. It costs more.

Isle. Is the agency worker paid at the same rate as the RMG worker?
I understand that in some areas agency workers are being recruited and deployed from next week to handle any overtime or cut offs. Posties are apparently refusing to do any overtime in these areas.
Now, if this were to happen nationwide on a daily and regular basis, I wonder how many casuals would be needed to cover the excess. And more importantly, for how long?
Now that would blow a huge hole in any profits!
