Redceo totally agree and IMO I will be surprised if it stays at 6%, if it does I would fully expect a lot of the items in dispute will be resolved.
Of course it should come with deliverables. You don't get something for nothing in this World.
JB. I was endeavouring to get at the average wage. Looks quite reasonable to me and certainly competitive in the marketplace.
Redceo I dont have the exact rates to hand but that is in the ballpark, I think that is the rate after a years probation starting pay probably around £10.50. There are enhanced rates for overtime and even different rates within that Scheduled Attendance (signed up to and guaranteed and ad hoc O/T) plus shift allowance mainly what I knew as NDA night duty allowance which I think kicks in after 1900pm plus different rates paid for London. I don't think many would disagree it is a decent pay package. I think 6% appears competitive but it will be IMO tied into other deliverables.
Are these RMG rates in the ballpark ? £11.62 Higher rates may be paid in different parts of the UK. You may also earn overtime and shift allowance.
If so the offer of 6% increase looks very competitive compared to Amazon.
Redceo no surprise from Amazon it was always IMO going to be temporary increase to get them through a peak period. I assume Amazon will be getting paid for handling testing kits so almost self funding. At least their workers will have some short term benefit.
madasaballoon I agree many groups of workers should be rewarded for their amazing efforts and bravery through this unprecedented event which hopefully will be a once in a lifetime occurrence. Top of that list IMO is NHS workers. For the key workers within the postal service perhaps a one off bonus would be an option. The pay rise would be tied to the business financials and plans and probably into other agreements. So a lump sum bonus should certainly be considered. I think it would help if postal workers stop talking themselves down about how they deliver crap and junk mail and non essential items they need to mention how they are keeping people connected and helping deliver critical and vital items.
Looks like Amazon workers will lose the £2.00 increase at the end of April.
As published on the Amazon website :-
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Amazon and our network of partners are helping communities around the world in a way that very few can — delivering critical supplies directly to the doorsteps of people who need them. We want to recognize our employees who are playing an essential role for people at a time when many of the services that might normally be there to support them are closed. To recognise the contribution our employees in the UK are making, we will be adding an additional £2 per hour worked from now through to the end of April. This is on top of our current starting rate of £10.50 for the London area, and £9.50 for the rest of the UK.
And on Scamps point any person on here who does not think that the postal workers of this country are not worth an excellent pay rise after this is all over well quite frankly they have nothing about them and are probably soulless
1. Take this as gospel: a huge reduction in "junk mail" from this very moment - like now! If not completely over the coming few days.
2. Regarding the final dividend: no surprises here...that money will be put to use when completing the forthcoming agreement with the CWU. Lets face it...after this is all over, RMG will have no other choice; if they don't then that s.p won't be worth ****!
