Does make a pleasant change
Wolfgang was a supporter of the old team and certainly had access to them for press comment
Nico has decided not to go down that path by not inviting Wolfgangl to the office whilst he was in South Africa.
Nico has a tough job to safe Fastjet from the previous disastrous management
To reduce capacity by 25% and yet only loose 3% of passengers is in itself a huge achievement,it does however show how flawed and how out of synch the business model was.
As usual a fair and impartial assessment from Wolfgang, if unusually critical – a timely reminder for any of us with our head in the clouds!
Despite that (admission!), I do think that, given the huge amounts of dollars being bandied about, and that many of us have chosen to place our faith and hopes in Nico’s team, their “major wage strain”, as Wolfgang refers to their remuneration, was a necessity if we were to be ‘rescued’ last year by anyone with the credentials he had, though I am aware that some better informed than I don’t rate them as highly.
One thing Nico got right, which Wolfgang has chosen to imply some doubt in his choice of headline, is blaming the “former management” for the doubling of fastjet’s losses over the previous year. An indisputable fact surely as anyone here who lived through the “Winter of our Discontent” must surely testify?
It's interesting that Wolfgang mentions the top-heavy management salaries in the new line-up. Let's hope they do something to justify them.
I absolutely agree with those sentiments too, Ronwin. Patience is still required but I think with more specific indicators of the company's strategy coming through, we have good reason to maintain our optimism for a brighter future
I see that as a glimmer of hope too. We need to reduce the number of passengers carried at a loss and Nico is doing that.
We will have to wait to see what the position is now. My hope and belief is that the situation will have improved. The announcements that we will have an Embraer fleet and that we will be operating more flights on existing routes make me optimistic too.
Is this share flatlining? I hold one that is doing the same and in the past had a couple that did likewise. Any comments on why that happens? I know lack of interest is one reason, and that it can last for months or years. Then suddenly someting happens, it spikes or disappears from view.
Bezuidenhout said that between July and December capacity was reduced by 25%, passenger numbers were down by 3% and revenues rose by 5%.
Meanwhile in TZ
Congrats Tanzania, leader in Africa economic growth at 7.2% in 2017 says World Bank (excluding Ethiopia where different input numbers used).
This is indeed confirmed further by checking the schedule which returns to the former higher frequency and all seating plans including Dar HRE are those of the E190
fastjet will switch to an all Embraer Regional jet fleet by October when a pair of E190s will be added.
As was said in the accounts the stabilization plan is on course for the end of 2017 to stop the outflow of cash
Any new routes should wait until we are in that position .
Increasing rotations on successful established routes makes more sense
But why still no BUQ??
Potentially 2 routes to HRE and JNB.
Me too, as has to be only too obvious over the years!! I posted a similar sentiment yesterday at 09:13. My optimism received a great boost once the news of Nico’s appointment was announced last year. And again with Solenta’s involvement. This week has really come up trumps with some flight increases and encouraging load factors. Thanks to you guys digging out the info for us all to share.
Finally some positive developments. Hopefully the first of many. Been patiently awaiting to find out the expansion plans with regards to the Solenta set up. Seems like Nico has a good team together and I'm still, as always, optimistic.
This is very good news indeed, I fail to understand why we ( they Fjet) did not shout this from the rooftops to the market, interestingly I have noticed for the first in weeks we had two days of buying, nothing to shout about normally BUT, it did make a change to the normal sea of red.
Also from the 1St JULY the aircraft is to be based in HRE
Buxton I will take your word for it, then it's good news and good to see that it was full.
Whilst the Triple Daily starts at the beginning of July, the HRE-VFA does not start the extra Monday rotation until Monday 17th July.
