July 2018...
In light of the difficult outlook for operations north of the Limpopo River, the Group has now turned its attention to the South African market where, earlier this year, it commenced the process of exercising its option to acquire local carrier and brand licensee, Federal Air (7V, Durban Virginia).
"The intention, beyond this current financing, is for the Company to explore financing and/or joint venture options in South Africa to support full-scale entry into that market," it said. "As the largest aviation market in Africa, the Board believes that South Africa, particularly routes to and from Cape Town, is[sic] strategically important to Fastjet, which can utilise the current FedAir platform as well as fastjet management's relations and track record in the country."
The FedAir acquisition is dependent on all relevant South African regulatory requirements being met and completed. The Group expects to commence Fastjet South Africa-branded services in South Africa no later than early 2019, subject to obtaining the suitable additional aircraft for its fleet and the associated financing
At the time of the capital raising wasn't there a deal to buy FedAir? What has happened to that???

Peter Hyde said: "Although the trading and operational environment has been challenging, I have much enjoyed my time on the fastjet Board."

Perhaps we could expand further in Zimbabwe, having said that Air Zimbabwe is set to receive 4 E190 and two of the Four B777 , the remaining two will be leased, it has also plans to bring back the A320.
This is a RAPID and to be commended response to the fast changing market in Tanzania, ATCL have as I pointed out weeks ago flooded the Tanzanian skies with unsustainable cheap fares and available seats , this will continue until the 787 heads off to longhaul routes and will not improve anytime soon as Atcl will then have the A220, we were caught with our pants down .
I’m hearing SA is being spearheaded and hoping to start operating there sooner rather than later.

Exists only in Talks, as actually no progress seems to have been made as The Countries Leaders are prepared to support loss making State Airlines and deliberately withhold routes to competitors to try to make them un-economic and hope they will throw in the towel and give up.
In this way the State Airlines could continue with their outdated, in-efficient, over staffed, Airlines with friends in positions of Authority.
There is no Prestige in losing millions to vanity Airlines. Follow the rest of the World and let private enterprise keep down the cost of flying so that the ordinary citizens can afford to travel by Air Too.
It has been clear to me for some time that we should have been looking to expand outside Tanzania as was our stated intention. We have been, under the present regime treated unfairly with aid and financial support to the State Airline and are not playing on a level playing field. We desperately need to lessen the reliance on a single Country and spread the risk, by increasing the number of Countries/Destinations that we serve.
If we are laying off staff and only need to use one E190, What on Earth are we going to use the extra 3 ATR Aircraft, which we have presumably been paying for, for six months without a single paying passenger on them to my knowledge.
Fastjet in Tanzania has issued a notice to staff of retrenchments by the end of September and is asking for those willing to accept voluntary redundancy to come forward in the next 3 days! According to the letter from the General Manager, staff from all departments will be affected.

Fastjet I am pleased that we have impressed some of our customers. What I am saying is the business operation, use of resources, timely commitment to Aircraft in sync with new routes and growth, and keeping investors updated , Is NOT IMPRESSIVE
PJ , what a childish response, being impressed with the customer service i received has Nothing to do with the current status quo NOTHING!
IT Certainly is not shareholders, One E190 not used, 3 ATR not used and sitting at Tolouse for 6 months with no indication as to what is happening to them. I am sure if they are costing someone money for non use, it is unfortunately US.
NO News is not GOOD NEWS
I'm Glad someone is VERY IMPRESSED
Just had a call from Fastjet informing me of a 15 minuets schedule change to my flight in November VERY IMPRESSED
According to the deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Isaac Moepeng, Fast Jet failed to start plying the route last year due to economic reasons as well as delayed sourcing of suitable aircraft to be used on the intended route.
“The licence was initially issued on the 19th January 2016 valid for one year to 18th January 2017. The airline has indicated their intentions to renew its licence,” he said.
Fast Jet Airlines is a British based holding company for a group of low cost carriers founded in 2011 operating in Africa.
They do have subsidiaries with Fast Jet Zimbabwe, Fast Jet Tanzania, and Fly 540 Sociedade de Aviacao Civil in South Africa. Fast Jet currently operates in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Tanzania.
Late last year Air Botswana announced that they have suspended the Gaborone-Harare and Gaborone-Lusaka route, as part of their plans to enhance schedule rationalisation for the upcoming summer period. Moepeng said Air Botswana made the decision in accordance with their business model and decided not to renew their licence.
Air Botswana was flying the Gaborone-Harare route three times a week. Meanwhile, about five airlines have been granted traffic rights into Botswana, which include Air Namibia, South African Express (SAX), South African Air

Maputo, Sep. 10 (Lusa) – Mozambique’s state-owned airline, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) and private operator Fastjet are going to accept each other’s passengers if there are any difficulties on their domestic flights they said on Monday after signing an agreement in Maputo today.
"Problems occur for many different reasons including bad weather" and this agreement intends to "minimise the impact on the passengers,” the companies said today in a joint communiqué.
The solution is going to be run on routes that both airlines operate, in other words between Maputo, Beira, Nampula and Tete.
"Internally, we are implementing a series of measures so we can monitor our flights in real time so as to increase the reliability of our operations", LAM’s general director, João Jorge, told Lusa.

B787, now you mention the 30p I do now recall, you are indeed correct. Waiting on these interims with interest

Still looking in from the sidelines. Nico will have to reveal most of the issues within the next couple of weeks as the interim results are due out. He sold himself to fastjet by claiming he can reduce costs. It will be interesting to see how H1 2018 compares with H1 2016, giving him the benefit of last year being a transitional year from the old leadership, fleets etc. Most importantly with cost control I would be comparing Cost per ASK between these two halfs. The figures will speak for themselves, along with RPK, ASK, etc. I gathered all along that his remuneration will be based on performance unlike his predecessor. I hope this is still the case and that he has not neen receiving remuneration for any failure. I recollect, for him to receive anything significant, a target share price around 30p if memory serves correctly.
I very much doubt that Nico will
1 Confirm ATR72 deffered
2 Confirm reasons why we are operating 1 E190 representing a 50% fall in flying hours.
3 Reason for retrace
4Impact on TZ business ATCL have caused.
We can all guess and we are probably not far out with assumptions.
All in all a very POOR SHOW, share price trading @7.20
He has only ever updated us when he has been fundraising or the odd media interview.Unless he has somthing up his sleeve things are not looking good
He seems to be as Elusive as the Scarlett Pimpernell, nothing happens for ages, things we are told are going to happen, Don't start. We do not seem to get any news any more between results ?
Investors need to have information !
In Fact, Never since the start of Fastjet has there been less news for investors to discuss in chat rooms.
