Notification of Major Interests in Shares

Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. ("AIB") received notification today from Bank of Ireland Asset Management Limited ("BIAM") that, as at 17th July 2008, BIAM held 35,353,128 shares in AIB, registered as shown below; this holding represents 3.85% of AIB's total shares in issue (which, as of today, number 918,435,570 shares, inclusive of 35,680,114 Treasury Shares), and 4% when the Treasury Shares are excluded;
