Universe Group PLC08 September 2006 8 SEPTEMBER 2006 UNIVERSE GROUP PLC ("Universe" or the "Company") BOARD APPOINTMENT The Board of Universe, the AIM listed retail and information systems company,announces today the appointment of Paul Cooper as Non-Executive Director, withimmediate effect. Paul Cooper, 52, is a Director and the Chief Operating Officer responsible foroperations and finance of EMDigital Limited, a liner motor design andmanufacturing business, where, over the last two years, he has established a newR&D facility in Sri Lanka and has overseen the filing of 14 patents. Mr Cooperhas held a number of Managing Director and Finance Director positions during hisextensive career, including as Group Managing Director at Blazepoint Group Plcfrom June 2000 to March 2003. In this role, he obtained pre-IPO finance and ledthe AIM flotation, won a £9million contract and made two acquisitions. Ray Mackie, Chairman of Universe, commented, "Paul brings a wealth of experienceto Universe, and I am delighted to take this opportunity to welcome him to theBoard. Mr Cooper wasa director of Blazepoint Group plc which was placed in liquidation on 14 March2003 following the sale of its business with a resulting deficit to itscreditors of approximately £254,000.
