Nomlungu, what a load of garbage that article is you don't dredge upstream...you dredge downstream so the water has somewhere to go...rivers are much wider downstream so they can take much more volume of water..and run it out to sea.....and please dont say that will raise sea levels

I think you'll find the EU did it to protect wildlife.......it should be about priorities....creatures ( that includes us) have survived thousands of year's...dealing with whatever is thrown at them...dredging is a necessity otherwise it would never have been done in the first instance....I noticed that farmers were deepening the bullies on our weekly visits to the coast of E.York's before lockdown......but it needs doing in the rivers....as per strollers post
