I have checked with 80M management and if the application is successful it will be a grant with NO requirement whatsoever to repay ANY of the money. In any case, in the world of business, the difference between a grant and a loan is well known.

Q: “Would it not be logical to assume that the reason that we are awaiting the new JV is that one of the partners won't stump up the cash ?”

A: Yes, that’s one possibility. But at the General Meeting, Rod McIllree was confident enough to confirm drilling at Disko this year, which must mean he was satisfied with the funds being available for the fieldwork.

Q: “If say the drilling costs say $5m and both partners agree 50%, which was intimated in that RNS, why would you require a new JV ?”

A: The tenure for the 2021 JV was three years and it expired in December 2024. RM confirmed this at the General Meeting. Rob Edwards also referred to the 3-year tenure for the JV and was critical of the fact that it was too short. Play this video at 8:40 - https://youtu.be/cgIt_T6SJ08?t=6

We will have to be patient for the answers to our questions on Disko until we get the update. But the words RM used on Disko at the meeting that struck me most were that "several other alternatives" were being considered. RM was quite reticent to discuss further on the matter but at least he was able to confirm drilling at Disko in 2025 which pleased me no end!  

"These seven priority targets exhibit spatial characteristics indicative of potential deposits on a scale comparable to renowned mining operations such as Norilsk, Voisey's Bay, or Jinchuan. To de-risk drilling, these priority targets will undergo a focused ground-loop electromagnetic survey to refine and prioritize each locality appropriately." (RNS 29 April 2024)

Based on the statement above, the intention then was to carry out ground EMS before drilling. However, the decision now is to drill Disko this year (2025). One option is to drill the shallow holes without applying EMS and carry out EMS only on the deeper targets. This seems to be 80M's preference. The update that is due should tell us exactly what the fieldwork programme is going to be including how many targets to be drilled and how many will be subjected to EMS. Additionally, it should also tell us about the future of the JV with KoBold.

Yes, Trump engages in hard talk (fiery talk) on the phone with the Danish PM. On the other hand, Marco Rubio engages in soft talk with his Danish counterpart (24 January). According to a reported Danish foreign ministry statement, the latter two agreed to discuss Greenland later. A statement from the U.S. State Department confirmed the interaction without any reference to Greenland.

My reading of the situation:

❖ Trump is fixated on Greenland and is hellbent on buying the island for national security and economic reasons.

❖ Danish PM says over her dead body

❖ Danes are not really fans of the Greenlanders

❖ Greenlanders are not really fans of the Danes either

❖ Greenland PM is caught in the crossfire between the Danish PM and Trump. He wants Greenland to be an independent sovereign nation but to have close cooperation with the U.S. on defence and in developing the mining sector

❖ Greenland's elections are due before 6 April. The question of independence is expected to top the agenda

❖ A speculative question: Rubio can be a restraint on Trump’s unorthodox foreign policy which rattles America’s global allies. So, it raises the question of how long he will last.

Two pieces of EU legislation directly target SAF: The RefuelEU Aviation Regulation and the EU Taxonomy Regulation. The RefuelEU Aviation Regulation mandates a 2% SAF target for airport fuel suppliers in 2025 and 6% in 2030. From 2030, the mandate will gradually increase, starting with 20%, 40% in 2040, reaching 70% by 2050. The EU Taxonomy Regulation has set technical screening criteria for aviation activities to fall. By 2030, passenger transport and freight aircraft must operate with at least 15% of SAF. This minimum threshold will then increase at a linear rate of two percentage points per year.

It's usually the U.S. Department for Energy that plays the leading role in critical minerals. Interestingly, enhancing partnership on critical minerals and global supply chain security featured in the talks yesterday between Marco Rubio, the new U.S. Secretary of State and Penny Wong, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs. Is this an indication that critical minerals will be one of the subjects at the forefront of President Trump's administration?

Chirpy - I noted with interest your suggestion of KoBold potentially becoming 80M's partner for the Finnish assets. Another option I would like to throw into the mix is that 80M sells some or all of its Finnish assets to KoBold and uses the money for drilling Disko. Moreover, by offloading the Finnish assets, 80M would then be able to focus more intensely on its Greenlandic assets and the Greenswitch production plant in Italy.

Chirpy - I hope TonyAngelino will not mind me interjecting here. The media reported KoBold Metals would expand into Finland after the company's recent fundraiser round in December 2024. Here it is:

At the General Meeting, I asked an open-ended question on Disko, "Where are we with the JV with KoBold at the movement?"

Rod McIllree's reply was:

1. The old JV ended in December 2024.

2. Documentation is currently being processed (did not elaborate).

3. Several alternatives are under consideration (did not elaborate).

4. Interesting options on multiple fronts are being pursued (did not elaborate and am not sure whether this particular comment applied to just Disko or wider. It was a free and fast-flowing conversation at the meeting).

The above are not Ashton's fantastical, exuberant and fanciful conjectures or theories or hopes. I  am simply reporting what was said at the meeting.

I attended 80M's General Meeting on 13 January 2025. The most interesting and puzzling takeaway from the meeting for me was when Rod McIllree said the company was considering "interesting options on multiple fronts". What did he mean?

This video captures the essence of Trump's reasons for wanting to buy Greenland well. Reference to the presence of oil in Greenland features prominently in the video. I am so glad 80 Mile is in the unique position of being the ONLY mining company on the island holding exploration & exploitation licences for extracting oil.

Rod McIllree expressed the opinion at the recently held General Meeting that 80 Mile holds licences for two of the most potentially highly valuable assets in Greenland, namely Disko (3,015 km²) and James Land (8,429 km²). Will these two tenements become highly valuable assets in the fullness of time? Time will tell.
