West Africa Ebola Update - Gambia Bird to Resume Flights

Westminster Group Plc ('Westminster', the 'Company' or the 'Group'), the AIM listed supplier of system solutions and products to the security, defence, fire protection and safety markets worldwide, wishes to provide a further update on the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Due to the current Ebola outbreak several airlines had temporarily suspended flights into the affected region whilst other airlines including Brussels Airlines and Royal Air Maroc continued to fly into the airport whose security is managed by Westminster. However it is understood that one of the airlines with previously suspended flights, Gambia Bird, is due to resume services from London, subject to final board approval, commencing 17 October 2014.

This resumption of flights by Gambia Bird is against a backdrop of advice from organisations such as the International Air Travel Association (IATA) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) who continue to advocate that no restrictions on air travel are necessary and in line with growing calls from organisations such as the UN, the African Union and regional civil aviation bodies for suspended flights in the affected region to be reintroduced as a matter of urgency.

Commenting upon the situation Westminster CEO Peter Fowler said:

"The Ebola outbreak in West Africa continues to be tragic for all those affected and economically damaging for the countries concerned however it is hoped that, given the extensive international aid and efforts now being deployed by the international community together with the exhaustive efforts of the local governments, this outbreak will be brought under control and that the countries can return to normality in the weeks and months ahead.

"In that respect I am delighted to see Gambia Bird resuming services and sincerely hope other airlines follow suit in due course."
