Filtronic PLC20 January 2005 For release 7:00am 20th January 2005 Filtronic plc and RF Micro Devices Inc.: Strategic Supplier Relationship for High Volume Supply of pHEMT GaAs Integrated Circuits from Newton Aycliffe Filtronic plc ("Filtronic"), a leading global designer and manufacturer ofcustomised microwave electronic subsystems and components for the wirelesstelecommunications and defence industries, and RF Micro Devices, Inc., ("RFMD")a world-leading manufacturer of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits(RFICs) for wireless communications products, based on RFMD's leading HBT GaAstechnology, announce the signing of a supply agreement for the manufacture ofhigh volume pHEMT GaAs products on the Filtronic 6 inch processing facilitybased in Newton Aycliffe. RFMD will incorporate Filtronic's pHEMT GaAs products into its own modules aimedat mobile handset and WLAN applications. Under the terms of the agreement Filtronic has become RFMD's Tier 1 supplier forGaAs pHEMT technology, where RFMD will use Filtronic as its preferred supplierof pHEMT integrated products for all its requirements. Multi throw GaAs pHEMTswitches are required in handsets to enable band/mode switching and these areoptimally manufactured using pHEMT GaAs technology. Filtronic and RFMD have been collaborating to develop and qualify a range ofmulti-throw switch products. Volume production is due to commence Q2 2005 withinitial pre-production already underway.
