As its quiet DGU, given EVE have only ever traded at a loss and given your understandable emphasis on needing companies to be profitable, why did you buy into EVE in the first place?

What made you think that with their past history anything would be different, given past directors had constantly said "this time next year, Rodeney..."?

Why did you not simply wait for hard proof in the accounts that they had actually cracked it in this most absolutely fundamental aspect of running a business before buying one single share?

Oh gawd.... I sometimes have to almost despair at your lack of knowledge about this given you have put a lot of your money into this.

EVe set up to lose money through advertising to build up a brand that would then when the advertising was removed/reduced could then, having gained sufficient market, share reap the profits at that stage.

Did you not know this? What actual research did you do?

There are other examples such as... I don't know, Amazon and Tesla that went down that route.

I can be a bit fluid D: it depends on my reasons for buying. On what I call binary stocks: (this one for example) My plan is normally time/news related rather than price related. Mostly (again accept for special situations) I usually only add to a position when the stock is rising.

The exception will be if its a frequently chart traded stock like say AVCT which I often add to around lower support levels. (however I sell it to at higher resistance levels)

I have a number of higher risk stocks at the moment so am applying a time/news criteria to them, such as AGL, HE1, BMN & ECO. However collectively they make less than 10% of my portfolio. (As you know I like WOSG and just keep adding to at lower levels because I think this is simply been dragged down by everything else and not on its merit so I spose its the old "buy when everyone is fearful" luckybuffet strategy.)

Generally I don't expect to make 30% per stock but when I do I employ the profit taking formula to bank them because anything that goes up that quick often goes back just as fast, (sooner or later)

Exception will be divi based stocks such as GLEN and BAE for instance, which is just buy and forget. They tend to take up a larger proportion of the portfolio in percentage terms.

I think Surfie, its worth trying to have stab at what the company could be valued at if there is a reasonable uptake of its tech.

If say £50m is a fair figure and its currently valued at £5m then it looks a good bet given where it is int own cycle.

The "problem" is its been here 3 times before? ie no more money needed before decent income rolls in.

This is surely the last cash raise now so I have 1% of my portfolio in this and will add further if I think the risk decreases.

But its pretty much a bottom draw, see you later, type stock for me.

well, D, my thoughts would be:

stop buying loss making companies. It increases the risk exponentially.

The next thing is get some ideal of their valuation relative to other companies in their sector

Stay away from exploration companies because they are loss making AND have the odds against them of finding whatever they are looking for.

Figure out what sort of annual return you want.

only bet with money you can afford to lose.

If you want less risk then but less risky companies......

And have a plan.....

well, the day is not done but I am making an assumption now, that some of yesterday's rise might have been an expectation of "surprise" news, and as there has been none, taken some money off the table?

Having said that its a pretty muted "fall". I have picked up a few more at just under 108p because I think its difficult to see why anyone who has not sold yet, would do so now. (Which obviously limits the downside.....)

In one sense nothing has changed inasmuch as the trial continues and is some weeks/months away from more info, so this is likely to remain within a trading range but today 117p would seem to be a target. If that went then although there is small resistance at 122p it would be 128p that would be next.

Difficult to see why it would retreat today, so it most likely an interesting day or two to see where it tops out and hopefully finds a higher floor. If the consensus is around 128p then that's about 16% from here which is worth having I would think.

(The other potential extra mover behind the scenes is if the shorts were wound up/removed. That extra impetus might push the SP on to 140p but as the shorts have stayed so long its difficult to know what will make them relinquish their position.)

Its Just a tug of war between some investors who think the SP might fall (Sellers) presumably due to the chance of a potential dilution and those that don't, (buyers) who think is a good entry point.

Its not so complicated you have to invent an analogy that doesn't actual simplify a pretty straightforward and easily understandable situation.

It reads that a bid WILL come in, rather than gambling on a bid coming in. And lets face it its just 2 buyers with Form 83 declarations that is fuelling (understandably) a potential bid. So there is some reasonable circumstantial dot joining for a bid but (imo) its not overwhelming.

I think that is true Dom, and it is getting very close to the wire now. There is a risk that a bid does not come through and there is an RNS out at 7:00am one day that says "Shares suspended" giving no one any option to trade out.

So I imagine the buys are based on an "all-or-nothing" option now.

Unfortunately I see HL with a (dummy) sell price of just about 98p so a bit of a fall.

Some of it will be a bit of nervousnous about tomorrow but I think there is a stronger element of the rumbling bloodbath for the economy generally right now and everything is getting dragged down.
