Thanks for your reply oogle, I too don’t see how shorting shares / the market are immoral, we need to use all the tools available as private investors, the process has been available to institutional investors for generations, only recently for private investors.

Re. The tax issue, all my investments are inside stocks & shares ISA s so tax is not a consideration

The idea of shorting the stock is in my eyes Is an insurance policy, you don’t take out an insurance policy expecting to capitalize from it, it is there as a safety net, if the stock was to crash to 50-60 p over the next couple of weeks before the rights issue I would be protected by my average buy price being moved lower, I f the stock were to rise over the next couple of weeks I would have waisted capital on the short but be basically the same financial position.

Watching the previous rights issues by IAG, AML etc. by publishing a right issue price, this gives a target to the MM,s to aim for before the issue, vacuuming the price towards this level.

I hold 10589 RR shares @ 160p ave. In my stocks & shares ISA
I am planning on taking up the rights @ 10 for 3 in total
Between now and the end of the month this share will be volatile
I can
1. Do nothing & ride it out
2. Sell now & buy back hopefully lower at the end of the month
3. Short the same amount of shares @ £ 100 per point with IG index

Option 3 will effectively maintain my ave price approx at this level either up or down

Any advice either for or against would be appreciated

Watching level 2 data over the last few days I have seen when the price gets lower than 50p ish , massive buys are put on the demand side of the order book to buy shares

I can only think of 2 reasons for this

1. Someone has instructed someone else not to let the price drop below 50p ish
2. Someone has instructed someone else to buy all shares below 50 p ish

Not sure which, but as a share holder ( 74,632 @ 58p average ) happy either way

I am an old git and remember buying BP shares in the government giveaway of 1987 at a price of 330p per share, if you had told me then I could buy back the same shares 33 years later at 258p I would have not believed you.

I did buy the shares today, BP have been good to me over the years in dividends & growth, let’s see what the next 33 years hold

will it hit £2.50 by 3pm ? lol

The 300k - 400k -500k bids put on the order board is to stop the price from rising, ive been watching it on level 2 all day. when the order has been sold in small chunks the price starts to rise & another large order is put just under the bid price to stop it rising & start the process again

I’m not saying there are false orders, just the opposite, why would someone buy or sell 1, 3, or 5 single shares thousands of times a day, these are not automatic trades (A) they are ordinary trades (o) some someone has to have physically executed the transaction. You can only see this in action if you have level 2 access. Dumping periodic large sell orders onto the order book 200,000, 300,000 shares at a time causes the system to munch through these trades 1 & 2 shares at a time therefore stopping the price from rising.

Just my theory

This share is being held hostage by the market makers, watch level 2 information for a few hours and it is obvious
1. £ 11 m buys v £ 4m sales & the price is basically flat
2. Large sell orders just under the bid to stop the price rising
3. Thousands of tidy ordinary trades ( not auto trades) to slow the market

All to allow the Market makers golf buddy’s to close out there shorts at these levels instead of way higher

Yes I am a holder of stock 66,000 @ 60p , we are all being played for fools
If I were Mooky I would take this stock private
