The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
More positive news from Moderna - confirms 94% effective with more robust data, should be a good uplift :)
I think some folks still don't appreciate there is now control of the second wave - news over the next few weeks will be of falling numbers, reopening and reduced restrictions. You will not have this chance again to buy a quality company like RR this cheap. Doesn't matter what is stated on these boards, but the big investors will return to dividend/value stocks and RR will see a substantial uplift from current levels IMO. Vaccination will mean there will not be a third wave. I'm looking forward to sitting on these until dividend is restored (at which point RR SP will be above 200p).
Blue all across the board at the moment - lead by the yanks :)
Good news with the R number falling below 1. UK officially getting control of the Covid situation.
Oilbacksoon Go back to your cave and stop wasting folks time. Your game is up. Fully funded for the worst case, which was before the vaccine news and positive contracts/news flow. But please, if you’re feeling really lucky keep on shorting! :)
True - could well surprise on the upside. Not sure there is much pessimism to talk about going forward. Main points should be that there is much evidence to suggest pent up demand for travel (as noted by Easyjet and the US, amongst others). A large sector where RR operates (Asia) has rebounded strongly, as has cargo. Defence and power systems are robust with many contracts announced and other big ones due. The successful funding has left RR in a good financial position to weather the 'worst-case' scenario, which although planned for looks unlikely to materialise and flight hours will also rebound strongly as the world exits from the Covid crisis sooner than expected.
Nice to see some plans around health passports. I would imagine you can fly without restrictions/quarantine once vaccinated otherwise pre-post test strategy without quarantine so long as symptom free. So roll-on the vaccination program and lets get folks flying again!
Brexit trade deal has taken the shine off the rise a tad, but this is all sabre rattling as negotiating tactics. It is very unlikely they will not reach a deal (perhaps as early as the weekend). A deal agreed should propel RR to new highs.
Markets even stronger overnight so expect big gap up and onward march today :)
What a gift of a drop that was - not quite sure why, nervousness over Brexit deal perhaps. I think that's in the bag and that will be a huge boost to whole FTSE.
I'm keeping some dry powder for the 11th. Mostly because the MMs sometimes try to pull a fast one, probably to hoover up stop losses. The earnings won't make for pretty reading, but hopefully RR will focus on the massive progress that has happened in the wider world for the expected fast recovery and getting people to fly again.
What a great rise! Crazy to think Rolls was 100p on Monday. Patience does indeed pay :)
Will be interesting to see the effect of the new quarantine rules on flight bookings...should be some news on that very soon I expect with a very strong rebound.
Plenty of good news here already. What we're seeing now is a return of confidence in heavily beaten down stocks. The pace of the recovery will catch many out I think. There is already adequate evidence of a rapid return to old flying habits in the Asian sector and the bump up from Cargo should lessen the impact of lost passenger flights somewhat. The real good news for Rolls is they will exit this crisis in a leaner state than before and there is massive investment happening in the power, green aircraft and defence contracts. The stock could double in value from here and still look cheap relative to future earnings. Wait it out till the dividends restart, yes 3-5 years away.
Rumblings of Airbus producing a hybrid aircraft by 2035 in the news. RR expecting a 100 passenger commercial plane by 2029...
Unbelievable. I'm really perplexed by the market reaction! How good does the news have to be for this to go blue!!
Early market jitters with FTSE and Wall ST down on virus impact. Rest easy, this will rebound strongly IMO, should be 10% up already!
Tempest in the news...article on the Times front page. Huge vote of confidence in the U.K. defence sector moving forward. Also RR tweeting about SMR contract... Goldman Sachs raising target to 127p still looks cheap!
It does indeed- “The funding settlement includes £1.5bn new money for research and development into the UK’s next-generation fighter jet programme. “ (FT)
Fantastic news again - I’m sure this will have a negative effect on the SP tomorrow!
Very strange on the reaction to all the positive news. Really thought SMR was worth 10% and the final Pfizer results another 5-10%. Still in the long-term these positives will add significant value to the company so time to gather more.
There it is confirmed!
Point 3 for SMR "we will take forward our plans for new nuclear power, from large scale to small and advanced modular reactors."
Point 6 for zero emission flight "we will strive to repeat the feat of Jack Al**** and Teddie Brown, who achieved the first nonstop transatlantic flight a century ago, with a zero emission plane. And we will do the same with ships."

...of course they are not planning with today’s technology but technology in 10 years.
DJP interesting comments and I respect your expertise. It’s a technology leap for electric flight (involving more than just battery tech of course). People said the same of computing power and powered flight. It will happen no doubt, as you say question of when...
