Will have a look at the shares you are thinking about for the funds - Of our existing holdings I am most hopeful about Summit, an Oxford based operation with two exciting drug programmes - (SUMM) and still hope that Ironveld (IRON) will prosper despite being in iron and vanadium as are planning to feed the domestic South African market. Sirius the Whitby potash project (SXX) now with planning permission must be worth more than its current value but is still some way away from bringing important jobs to the North East. Thanks for your posts on this board over the years - always informative.

Why are some institutions buying? Oddo Asset management's latest of 200000 shares would give a profit of £1,000 if the deal goes through as it is. Perhaps they feel that a better offer may materialise. If it doesn't they may get the 36p but there must be a risk of not reaching the 90% acceptance and going unconditional.

Have found a earliest deal date of 15 October in the offer RNS. But also want 90% acceptances so it may not be a completely done deal yet. If a rival wanted to play for time and had £6m available could delay things. Having said that, with the boards support and presumably their agreement not to talk to anyone else, it isprobable that 36p is all that we will see.

Actually I think the chances of a better offer are probably quite low - just organising one would not be easy. But you can buy at 35.4p (on Selftrade), so after dealing cost would make about £170 on a £10,000 investment if the deal goes through (there is always a very slight risk that something may happen to scupper it) in a few weeks which is better than a building society. I cannot find out from the document when the deal date is but assume it is in next 4/6 weeks

From the offer document, seems that irrevocable is irrevocable only as far as the directors are concerned "The irrevocable undertakings given by the Alkane Directors continue to be binding in the event of a higher third party offer for Alkane. In the case of the undertaking given by Henderson Global, the undertaking ceases to be binding if a competing offer is announced by a third party in respect of all the share capital of Alkane which: (a) in the reasonable opinion of Altium exceeds the value offered pursuant to the Offer by more than five per cent.; and (b) a period of five days has elapsed from the announcement of such third party offer without Barbican having revised the terms of the Offer so that, in the reasonable opinion of Altium, the revised value of the Offer exceeds the value of the offer by such third party." Henderson have 23.5% of Alkane - I am going to hold on in the hope of a 40p counter offer.

Not sure you lose anything by waiting , and you would be gutted if a higher offer did materialise. I am also in Infinis (gas from land fill and electricity from wind) and have always thought that Alkane would be a good fit for them. Slightly disappointed by 36p but showing agood profit on Alkane.

5.35p - presumably the MMs have all run their stock right down and a few buys are causing this welcome rise.

I am the last person criticise someone for going right up to a deadline, but it does seem odd that they were not able to finalise before now. I am sure you are right that Peel Hunt give their full support and that Mwana fully expects to have a new Nomad in place tomorrow - but really what else can they say. Any position less positive would see a mass exodus from the shares.

Richard, fully agree, have followed for them years and really hoped they had a chance of creating a serious operation. In addition to the points you make there is the possibility(probability) that they are not going to get a Nomad before the weekend. Suspension would then follow and if still no Nomad in a month would mean expulsion from AIM. I have also sold out, but would hope to return one day if still a quoted company

No benefit for who? If the company doesn't want to issue new shares, and largest shareholder, who is now the executive chairman, cant buy any more. it doesn't harm him and slightly reduces costs. But it would harm ordinary shareholders. Think it may be time to get out.

I don't understand how Alkane can get contracts on the demand side. " DSBR [Demand Side Balancing Reserve] is targeted at large energy users who volunteer to reduce their demand during winter weekday evenings between 4 and 8 pm in return for a payment." This used to be known as load shedding by, for example, chlorine producers who reduced demand in times of stress. Alkane is an electricity producer.

Why should the OFGEM investigation affect the SP. The agreement being looked at is a contract using nine new build generators providing capacity at times of system stress. The investigation doesn't affect the existing rapidly growing business.
