Tonight's closing SP22 Feb 2018 19:11
Can't be denied, tonight's close just confirms what all holders know, that the SP is, and has been, in the grip of a firm downtrend since mid January and like someBoa Constricter/ Anaconda, just hasn't let up.
Personally, I have no signals, signs, or counter trends, even so much as hinting at a change in the current situation - yet.
As per normal, I've yet again broken my own guidleine rules of jumping in too early with a buy today, when I much prefer to see a trend cross to the upside and the balance of probabilities therefore means that whatever price you buy at, It's all rising anyway. Whatever -
There is reasonably good news though. This isn't just any old down trend - it's deep in the heart of an oversold condition, and sooner or later, seller exhaustion always sets in. Always. It's just working out when that exhaustion kicks-in, that's the puzzler. I prefer to trend follow the momentum rather than make miscalculated guesses (but will break that guideline too in a moment) which means nearly always, usually missing the ultimate bottom when buying, and always selling well after the top has expired.
Most previous oversolds in Amer are weak affairs despite the many and almost regular downtrends over the years, apart from a large oversold condition in June/July 2017 of last year that lasted approx one month.
A further weaker oversold condition came in late August that resulted in the biggest SP retrace yet - and didn't find a floor until it was circa 14.5p.
This current retrace has already surpassed the 16p.odd, of last December's low, which believe it or not was not the result of an oversold condition being present. So tonight's close, lies between the lowerst ever retrace of 14.5p of last August and the more recent December retrace of low 16's.
Tonight's close in the 15's leaves little between the lowest ever floor of 14.5p and tonight's close. I'm expecting this oversold condition to peter out by early March latest - based on all previous similar events solely in Amer's history. But as all small print says - past performance is no guarantee of future performance blah blah etc., etc., :)
I'm ratrher hoping that on this occasion it does, so looking for respite by the end of this month/early March. In the meantime, won't hurt to put another lucky chancer's computer limit-buy order in for the 14's. And if you're thinking what if the retrace doesn't end there?
Well I can only repeat - all oversold conditions result in seller exhaustion, they never last that long anyway, and my best guess is within the next two weks, tops - maybe.
