RE: The Future of the LFT looks BRIGHT14 Feb 2021 20:52
Yes, it will soon be the era of the Rapid Flow Test - again. The LFT has been around for 20 - 30 years plus. It fell out of favour decades ago but now, today technology advances has transformed the simple, cheap, easily used LFT - and it is coming into its own again, and will be a lot more common in future for all kinds of medical and non medical uses.
The costs of Healthcare is becoming increasingly important globally – creating a new and CHEAPER protocol for medics - the ‘test first and prescribe later’ strategy, will become much cheaper, and simple to apply . Lateral flow is perfect for this kind of application, offering low cost testing that can be performed close to the patient without a appointment, the need for extensive equipment or staff intervention.
The second reason is that lateral flow is growing in popularity is because these tests are simple enough that they can often be performed by the patient themselves. This allows pharma's a chance to provide a duel companion diagnostics test, and then the add on of the medical solution - This makes business sense from the pharmaceutical companies’ perspective, driving further revenues through supplying other products. This will be just the beginning and corvid has accelerated the take up, leading to major growth in an array of different lateral flow markets - all of which have to be manufactured - hence the newly created British diagnostic manufacturing alliance that the UK government have help set up recently - so they can react faster next time the UK faces a malignant virus.
