Dale Wallster is a geologist and prospector with 40 years’ experience in North American mineral deposit exploration. He was president and founder of Roughrider Uranium Corp., a company acquired by Hathor Exploration Limited in 2006 for its strategically located uranium properties in the Athabasca Basin. Dale and his team are widely credited in the mineral exploration sector for the discovery of the Hathor’s Roughrider deposit. In January 2012, Hathor became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto as part of a CAD$650 million acquisition.

Will be interesting to see the buying in Valore when it’s trading half stops, I got a chance to spend some time with Jim Paterson and Jeff Sundar of the Discovery Group where I got updated on all of the companies in their stable. The Discovery Group has had many successes, most recently, with the acquisition of its Northern Empire by Coeur Mining. I like being in early and cheap on stories and with that in mind, I was trying to get some insight on some of their newer and less expensive plays.

The one that stood out to me is ValOre Metals (TSXV – VO) – formerly Kivalliq Energy, a uranium company I used to own with nice assets in Nunavut and Saskatchewan. The Angilak uranium deposit in Nunavut holds 43 million pounds of uranium. ValOre still owns the uranium assets but the Kivalliq share structure was consolidated as part of its name change from Kivalliq to ValOre. After its just recently closed rights offering, backstopped by CEO and Chairman Jim Paterson, management and directors (including Dale Wallster), and some industry friends, ValOre has 49 million shares outstanding and about $2.5 million in cash. At today’s share price, that’s a $9 million market cap – I will be keeping an eye on ValOre and more specifically, its next project acquisition.

We have four projects in Canada with which we are leveraging the upward movement in both uranium and gold prices. Two of these properties are in Canada’s Nunavut territory, including the Angilak uranium property, which is a 1,000-square-kilometer land package south of Baker Lake.
At Angilak we have spent over $55 million on discovery and delineation expenditures, most of which was conducted in the Lac 50 trend area. There, we have identified various stacked structures that carry uranium and other minerals. We have delineated a resource of approximately 0.69 percent U3O8 for a total of 43 million pounds, which is the highest grade in Canada outside of Saskatchewan, and amongst the highest in the world. This is a significant deposit with lots of expansion opportunities, and we think that the Angilak property has district-scale potential and could thus be of interest to partners in the future. In anticipation of this, we currently have three rigs on the property focusing on similar parallel structures to the Lac 50 trend that should help increase the project’s resource once the market turns.
Our second Nunavut project is our recently acquired Baffin gold property: a 4,000-square-kilometer land parcel that sits on a 114-kilometer belt. Historically, previous exploration groups have spent approximately $25 million on the project. We expect to leverage this past work in order to advance the project and delineate the resource.
In Saskatchewan, we have two more projects, both of which are focused on uranium exploration and are within 50 kilometers of the bulk of Canada’s uranium-mining and milling infrastructure. They also sit along an important geological structure. With a positive turn in the uranium sector, we hope to see more interest in these projects, spurring more work on the properties

Jim was a long-standing and active director of Kaminak Gold Corp. (acquired by Goldcorp.) and founding director of Northern Empire Resources Corp. (acquired by Coeur Mining). In 2007, Jim founded Corsa Capital Ltd. Corsa’s 2008 IPO lead to a 2010 transaction which created a leading U.S. metallurgical coal producer with a C$250M market capitalization.

He recently bought £500k shares in the company placing.M&A successes include Kaminak Gold Corp. acquired by Goldcorp. for $520 million in 2016 and Northern Empire Resources Corp. acquired for $117 million in 2018 by Coeur Mining.

Anton has some good industry contacts He has worked on transactions across a range of commodities and for a number of leading global players including Anglogold Ashanti, Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton. Prior to embarking on his investment banking career, Mr du Plessis worked for the Anglo American group in a corporate finance and business development capacity.

The work that we have undertaken at Abbeytown continues to indicate that there is potential to expand the mineralised system. The surface and underground drilling has provided us a good understanding of the geology with the scope to extend the known footprint of the mineralisation further south. The high grades near surface and the nature of the mineralisation, combined with the underground development that Erris has made safe, all have the potential to lead to the development of a low-cost operation.

In line with our strategy focused on accelerating resource delineation and development, we are now focused on evaluating alternatives to advance the project. This could be through a joint venture or industry partnership or further drilling to further expand the footprint of the project.
