Markets in General12 Jun 2019 20:53
Hi ABLE, not to sure I understand your point but I don't have much of a view on markets in general. I take a view, and a gamble, on individual companies in particular.
I currently hold 11 companies of which only 3 are divi payers. If the other 8, which I classify as start-ups, actually, progress to profits and dividends then the SP should rise anyway even if we're in a bear market.
Woodford was rare in that he was very open and he published his holdings so any investor in his funds could easily know what they were buying. In spite of that he has hit real problems which has surprised people. There were very few people who predicted the fall before it happened but an awful lot criticised his holdings with the benefit of hindsight.
If the shares I hold come good then I intend to retain holdings but cash out profits for re-investment in certain Investment Trusts. Because they are "Closed" Companies it's the share price that takes any hits leaving the investments alone. With Unit Trusts because they are "open" the underlying investments have to be sold, often at a fire sale price, if holders want their cash back. This is why Woodford froze his funds.
