Mercury used copper in the 90's along the rail lines, a certain group used to loop the lines so the trains pulled the cables out, off with the copper. Ended up with fibre along the lines, not so lucrative for the scum, but a big nuisance. This isn't a new idea by any means as the tunnels / trackside have been used by many, BT may not be legally able to buy depending on OFCOM. Voda ended up with the ex mercury/C&W assets.
