Costs, quality and IP theft are a real problem in China, why with all the modern tech and production capabilities are companies not investing in the UK? Because they'll be taxed to high heaven and the workforce isn't motivated due to generally poor wages and shocking levels of personal not to mention business taxes. IR35 has taken out a huge swath of mature talented and generally hard workers as well.

Their profit margin seems ludicrous even without the £100m loss based on a very bad contract. Though why there’s no immediately apparent force majeur due to Covid I do wonder just how bad the wording of their contracts are!

NTC, I hope you’re right. Contractually this is way more complicated than the military contracts for reactors in military vessels. There’s also caution I’d suspect around the supplier partners like lang o’rouke who are heavily tied up with HS2 and therefore cost control and in time delivery will be front and foremost. After all we don’t want them as a conglomerate to repeat the EDF experience

Unless there’s a big announcement re SMR, an early set of guidance or something else seriously upbeat (I know there’s been loads and we know what happens usually) we’re hovering on that frying pan handle again for a while. Just a case of siting back and waiting or doing some day trading on this one until results come out, then 😀

One can only hope the RR sales and Marketing teams are jumping all over this.

Sadly in this world money speaks and louder than humanitarian issues. Whilst I absolutely agree with NTC’s views and sentiments and those that point out correctly imho where it’s going at home, we are here solely to discuss matters RR and make money.

A lot of business has been done on the cloud since the early 2000's, I was in the industry selling and using the tools and it has it's place. It has to be said though that there's nothing quite like actually meeting people to build relationships in business

That's my only bit of politics on this board. Someone in government (and the MSM) needs to wake up and start being more positive about the country and pushing for real inward investment (not HS2). AI and modern manufacturing techniques (low labour input, but highly technical) ought to be able to produce pretty cheaply most of the stuff we need without buying excessive amounts in. The government of the day needs to oil the wheels and high Corp tax and VAT doesn't do that

Reppyr - Why Heathrow's 3rd Runway, investing in say Alconbury (sadly now largely gone) as a transport hub for air freight would have been more sensible as it's on the A1 / A14 / M11 / M1 / M6 that already is full of transport (lorries) from Felixstowe and close to major distribution hubs. It had one of the longest runways in the UK. Or provide support for regional airports

Mystic, it’s like reading up on a piece of history, many takes on the same thing, some ring true , others not so.and it’s for the researcher to keep an open mind and come up with their own theories and put their name to it. On this one those two pieces of info were contradictory in my mind over what we’re seeing and believing and as someone with a fairly large financial interest (for a mere punter) I was (am) interested in peoples opinions on why they’re contradictory.
