I'd not be surprised to hear about onshore windmill construction rather than core energy derived from SMR, but then this government is driving negativity.

Dougal I lived near Bradwell for most of my life, I think the locals would welcome the investment and jobs. The only scary thing was actually standing on the top of the reactor on a visit. I've sailed and eaten the seafood from around there for years. CND did a great job of scaring the wits out of people.

Part the reason land O'Rouke are involved is that they productionize concrete structures, far better and quicker than manufacturing one offs on site. I was lucky enough to be shown around the factory a few years ago, fascinating how they can mass product high quality repeatable structures in reinforced concrete.

No idea, in principle I’d guess they could, but my guess also says that as the government holds a golden share that would be a highly political call.

Freddie you'd hope it'd be around 20% on the overall cost, though that'd be split between the various contractors involved in the build, quite how that split will work is a mystery at present. I thought I'd seen £2-2.5Bn for the first ones reducing over time. I'd expect RR to be picking up the maintenance element too, like they do for aero engines so a nice little earner over the 60 year life of the reactor and plant. Very happy to be corrected by someone in the know

A nice gentle nudge each day is all we need, though I think government sign off of SMR will give us a nice push upwards. Anyone have a clue how much the naval propulsion unit went for? Hopefully that'll just pay down the last of the short term debt?

All we need is Millipede to do the right thing and sign off RR as the No1 supplier of SMR in the UK and we'll start to see progress.

Still on the fence

Sadly those who preach ‘green’ have no idea how ungreen their digital lives really are. Still I suppose it’s got a golden lining for us shareholders as the demand for energy spirals and RR have a very good solution.

A big partnership? I’d have thought an oil major looking to go green would be a good one? Anyone better against BP say being a potential partner?

Fordm Most if not all of the currently decommissioned nuclear sites have the interconnections already in place but unused. As a country the issue seems to be that we’re building wind and solar where there are no interconnections. On the distribution side I wholeheartedly agree, insufficient capacity

I suspect it’s partly to do with her commercial relationships with other parties involved in the development and development of SMR, such as Laing O’Rouke where she’ll know the senior players due to their involvement in HS2 as well as Rolls?

NuckT It’s just that time of year, US elections, Middle East & Ukraine, oh and our continued dysfunctional government. Any one of those going positive will give us a jolt up I’m sure.
