Zoom out a year and up to 25th feb 25 or even 9th Apr and draw a straight line we're actually climbing still very well, absolutely on track since july 2023. We've so far lost the anomaly of peak that ended roughly with the april 8th drop, we're largely where we would've been on that line without that lovely pop. Since then we're recovering that drop quite well and again if you draw a line from the 8th to today our recovery is pretty fair indeed. I extended that out and with a fair wind we could be back to our 'peak' in a couple of weeks, unless we're trumped or putined again.

Interesting. I just thought that this was an interesting article from the finance sector that's looking after a lot of our pensions etc. I make no bones about the fact I absolutely would love to see DOGE rolled out in the UK, 10% efficiency target (head reduction) PA would be a great start.

I'm a southern boy that enjoyed thatcherite positivity but I now live in an old midlands mining community that had it's heart ripped out and the poverty has a smell about it, industrial decline everywhere. No one has ever thought of genuinely levelling up the UK, we waste so much money and potential talent by not having an industrial base that creates jobs, wealth and that much talked about mental health.

RR are or will be the contract 'prime', they have their preferred contractors already who will be accountable for their individual delivery and will have presented their individual designs as part of the bid along with the service wrap for the delivery and subsequent operations. RR SMR will manufacture, install and commission the the SMR element and I would imagine as per others monitor the unit, they did invest in an instruments company a couple of years ago. To get to this point in the bid stage every element will have been considered and priced in, that will all be commercially sensitive, we'll only know the bottom line 'profit' for RR once the units are in and running I'd imagine.

I'm a little confused as to the exact level of debt today, the likes of SWS show £3.7bn of debt, is this real? I could go through the accounts but was hoping someone on here might be able to provide some shared enlightenment. Cheers

Dale Vince has no idea about national security ..... He's making claims about the recovery of eco costs in 12-18 months, I'd really like to see the ACTUAL numbers, Solar and ASHP's take a decade before the extra cost creates a breakeven.

Overall it's a positive for Nuclear, the fear factor has been wound up for years and it's still a very hard sell to roll out. I'm biased I lived near Bradwell for decades and have walked on the pile there and Sizewell, odd sensation but perfectly safe

Until we get a government that is genuinely pro business, value job creation this country will continue to slide down in the world. It needs someone in charge of business that genuinely understands it, not a fake solicitor like reynolds or a numpty as chancellor and as for a mental energy secretary ......

Fossil (gas) is the fast response to spikes in demand, not sure how they intend to deal with that spike? Our current hydro is tiny, though I suppose the could flood most of scotland and wales with dams and hydro plant. In terms of RR and it's 51% stake assuming £5bn per SMR pair with a 20% margin that's surely £500m profit on the bottom line annually per pair? Not huge but healthy but if it's 3 pairs that's a pretty handy number. Shoot me .....

Retirement

Like you I'm currently down circa £150k and yes this is one hell of a time to be building a retirement pot, which I am like you, though I've retired. Personally I am sticking until March 2027 when the rules on SIPP and inheritance currently change. When you look at the last years growth it's largely a straight line up, with a huge blip that we've currently lost, but essentially the share is still climbing, just not stratospherically as we become accustomed to

There's certainly a thought that I should rebalance my portfolio, that decision will come, after the next SMR slip, though with narrow body starting to look good for the next 3 years, maybe not. This share has been good to us so far.

We (the west) have made this situation ourselves through the belief that globalisation will break down the barriers between east and west. It's been pure greed that creates consumerism paid for largely through debt and the real money being shifted to the poorer parts of the world (formerly china etc), except through our greed and some say liberal views we've gone way too far. So far that China is able to use money that was ours against us, tariffs are a pretty crass tool to shift production back to the west (US) when we should be investing in using all the modern tools to produce 'stuff' ourselves at the lowest cost with minimal actual 'man'power. We've even been stupid enough to outsource our critical infrastructure to countries ideologically against us to leave us with our trousers around our ankles. We're so far in the doodoo that we don't have a way out, the genie that is cheap consumer goods and now the not so cheap just can't be produced anything like as cheaply as our eastern earth dwellers. I don't blame Trump for doing what he's doing but there are surely much more intelligent ways to onshore that what we've offshored?

I'm inclined to think leaving alone is very much the best policy, unless someones good at guessing the vagaries of this bonkers market. The swings are big enough to add some profit, if and its a big if, you get the timing right
