@sundezena
'because this drop is a tree shake '
With respect, a 'tree shake' usually refers to a single large drop in one company against a backdrop of a bear market.
All airlines and travel sectors are down as are oil stocks and the FTSE is also down from its yesterday highs.
This is more a Market shake sadly.
Over the weekend I told you to sell if the SP rose above 212 even if tentatively.
Obvs no one Could have predicted the huge fall out from the so called Indian strain.
With no foresight of today's movement downwards I sold my entire stake here yesterday at exactly 212 for a small profit.
I have no crystal ball, but I knew today was results day for Petrofac (my best investment this year) and I wanted my underperforming investment here to take any advantage of a drop there.
Just luck for me. You will get your 212, just not today sadly.
Good luck to all holders
@sharefell.
I sold my IAG for 212 yesterday (at a profit) specifically to top up here. Still holding that dry powder.
Looking at IAGs SP today seems a wise choice and with an AV here of 106 still nicely in the blue.
GLA
Also Kept my entire holding here.
Sold my underperforming IAG shares today (at a profit) to top up here tomorrow regardless of results. May prove a great opportunity to top up if there is a dip or to consolidate my current holding.
GLA
Hey Dean, good to hear from you.
Yup, a few days away is always healthy.
Been a far better Monday than I anticipated as I'm in the blue across all my investments.
I took a punt on PetroFac couple of weeks ago and it's now my best investment this year (so far) so fingers crossed we can hold our gains.
GLA
Neither of you are blocked by me. I love a good debate and haven't been critical of anyone here, only added my own thoughts to that posted, not the poster.
'Uncle TP' - I kinda like that. But you still have to return my wellies.
Point is, we are all invested here. Have a great chilled Sunday all and see you here at the bell on Monday....... As always.
GLA
There is almost a sad and poignant irony in this post that almost best sums up many threads here of late.
Sadly it is not a parable but of course a true story of man's greatest most modern steam ship of that time inexorably encountering one of nature's oldest creations. Ice.
As the stature and shape of Titanic's* hull was being forged in the docks of Belfast. So to were the ice structures and particles that would create an ice berg.
As one would launch so to would another cleave itself from the ice flow, both setting on a course of collision no one could have fathomed.
The grandest ship afloat rendered a fatal blow. Yet survive many did and the ice flowed on........
I'm not sure if climate change contributed to that Ice bergs 'journey'. As pointed out, the thermometers at that time were crap so it's likely the captain thought he was sailing in the Carribbean.
I think it's possible we all have our eyes wide shut from time to time. Whatever side of this climate change you sit on, nature will always humble us eventually.
As the bloody stock market does my investments from time to time.
* The asterisk after Titanic Is a bone for big_blue as he loves a good conspiracy. Was it indeed the Titanic..... Or Olympic that sank that fateful day....
@big-blue
'And sunny, if you accept the consequences of climate change claims, what the hell are you doing investing in an airline? '
I personally have no problem with 'sunny'. He has been a frequent and honest long term poster here, often candid about his investments, which is what BBs is all about. And I'd gladly meet him for a beer or two.
I also have no problem with big-blue. Had some good bants with him (think wellies) but this is all getting keyboard warrior boring to me as my tongue in cheek Radio2 post is to others.
But, blue, your quote right backatcha. You clearly believe your own narrative. So as soon as you get 1p over your 212. Do yourself a favour and sell this doomed stock from your portfolio.
You can then sit back and watch the 'climate change' doctrine ground all airlines, kill all holidays, close all borders, shut down big oil and have the last laugh as the rest of us invest, trade and try to make a return.
Which from your long posts over the last two days is doomed to fail.
I'll sadly watch the wings cut off BAs fleet, which you highlighted will happen.
But until then, I'll see if I can eek a few more grand out of my IAG investment.
GLA and have a great Sunday with fam and friends.
What an interesting day this has been here.
A space generally given to share discussion, thoughts and hope of profit (isn't that why we are all here?) somehow taken over from a post regarding one individuals continued belief of climate change unfair play of share price manipulation ( to which I initially answered very tongue in cheek re my family farm) to a full out playground spat that has now encompassed parables from the Bible regarding Fishes and Loaves to cheaply debunk another's point of view.
I've often seen posters throw the kitchen sink at others to drive home a point about share movement, but using two thousand year old testament scriptures and 6 year old cognitive questioning skills to blather on the belief in or not of climate change makes me feel I'm in the wrong place to chat about my current IAG sp AV.
Personally I care not a jot about the chest beating 'my degree is better than yours' waffle. My 'Fluffer First degree' from the University of Playgirl doesn't mean diddly here. But hopefully my thoughts about IAG do.
Shall we return to IAG chat or bring in the alien abductors
I actually enjoy a little Hokum and fluff.
Especially from my chequered past as a 'fluffer' but that's a story for another day.
@Nzonze
'So how accurate were the worldwide set of thermometers in 1850?'
I'm obviously not sure. But I would imagine that the mercury used in them would have reacted the same as mercury in say a 1950 thermometer. Unless we err on the side that they were calibrated incorrectly hence the 1850s thermometer showed 22degrees when in fact it was only 19 degrees for sake of argument.
A couple of asides -
The Archimedes principle highlighted by bb.
This applies to ice sheets formed on then melted on sea surface. It's easy to replicate. Take a glass of water and fill to three quarters. Then brim.with ice. As the ice melts it does not overflow the glass.
I always thought the argument of rising sea levels centred on the land based Ice sheets melting. Though that seems spurious to me as well.
One thing that did make me smile was many moons ago whilst flying with BA to LAX. A very friendly, amiable, approachable crew member was passing through the cabin collecting the drink service detritus with a green recycle bag for the mini cans of empty coke and tonic etc.
I hadn't seen this before and she said it was a new initiative to 'green up' the airline and stop it going to landfill.
All very commendable of course.
I did point out however that, to my mind, collecting and recycling a few dozen cans would hardly offset the burning of 140 tonnes of jet fuel on a 12+ hour flight nor greatly reduce the flights carbon footprint.
She smiled, patted my shoulder and said 'Every little helps'.
To which I ordered another vodka and coke.

I have taken it upon myself to save you from yourself.
Tomorrow I'm coming to get you. You will be forced out of your Wentworth gated community at an ungodly hour.
You will be forced into a pair of size 12 Wellies and into the cab of my John Deere, red diesel slurping non electric field ploughing beast.
You will be forced to leave all your electronic equipment at home and listen to radio 2 in said tractor cab for the journey to the ole woman's farm.
Once at the farm you will be forced to look at and understand that 'climate change' has indeed been noticed by my four generations of farming family stock.
However, after you've been forced through the slurry zone and given a very meaty hearty breakfast I can show you how some change has been beneficial in allowing quicker crop rotation and new non Monsanto grain strains can be used.
How seasonal change has allowed improved livestock husbandry and allows our now reopened farmshop the ability to provide top quality 'cheaper' meat for local plates. Where you will be forced to work until the Jeremy Vine show starts at 12.
During lunch I will force you to watch a farcical and always wrong Country File 'week ahead' weather report that my family always find funnier than John Bishop and as factually correct as Pravda during the 1970s.
My Grandmother is a forward thinking 90 year old passive activist. She has an electric vehicle. It's a disability scooter called Greta. You will be forced to ride it, towing reduced salt lick blocks to our rare breed sheep. You may listen to Steve Wright's big show on the wind up radio blue tacked to the handlebars.
By the time Sara Cox comes on at 5pm you will be a tad sunburnt, covered in straw and probably praying for some climate change acid rain.
After the dairy herd has returned for the second milking I will drop you home. You will be forced to return my wellies and I will send you on your way with a copy of Newsweek from 1988 that states on its cover 'Experts predict a new Ice Age in a decade'. I kid you not.
We have tried to minimise the impact of the changes we have seen and adapt to and exploit those we can.
Anyway, looks like you may get your 212 again today. Good luck
I was more intrigued in your statement about missing the chance to exit your position at 220.
Usually posters highlight their AV so others can guage and share their thoughts on your investment. Otherwise why post at all.
It was not a criticism, merely a thought.
Whatever your strategy I wish you well.
And the FTSE breaches 7000.
Great day for investors.
I'm also slightly intrigued as to why a holder of so many shares hasn't chatted with us before.
Anyway, as always, good luck all.
BINGO B-B
Theres your 212 :-)
You'll be in the green before you know it.
I'm also perplexed. I thought the airline/travel stocks southerly dip yesterday was based on an expected announcement after market close yesterday.
As you point out, what flipping announcement?
I did post last week that I thought the huge daily see saw swings would come to an end here regarding IAG. With more palatable sustainable upticks or downward sentiment led market tomfoolery.
I'm still 'out' as I cancelled my limit buy yesterday.
But I'll be back in soon.
To all holders, as ever, the best of luck to all of you.
@Big-blue
I can really read the frustration in your posts.
Do you mind me asking your AV here? Not the amount you hold, that's clearly none of my business and I don't want to know.
We all know this will eventually be North of 220.
We just have to wait is all.
GLA
IAG still holding up well compared to EZY JET2 and TUI AG.
Different business models I grant you but holding on well.
GLA
I think we all knew it wasn't going sub £2.
I may have to rethink my entry level :-)
GLA
Morning all.
I have set a limit buy at 206.
Will see if it triggers.
GLA
Good grief!
castle, where have you been?
Good afternoon to you too.
