In the RNS, I liked these words myself, "Scancell, which raised £46 million last year to drive its pipeline through clinical trials". That's 'driving the pipeline through' - strong stuff. A bit of drive eh ? Here's to it !!

That's 'driving the pipeline through' - strong stuff and I'm waiting eagerly for that. Good data from Covidity will also bring much attention to Scancell and be a massive help to recruitment for Modi 1 trials.

"A Covid vaccine which the Government cancelled a contract for last month may be better and more effective than the AstraZeneca jab, according to new data. Valneva said on Monday that its phase three results – which included more than 4,000 people across 26 sites in the UK – show it produces roughly 40 per cent more neutralising antibodies than the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab.

Valneva, a French pharmaceutical company, has been developing and testing a vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 which uses a traditional method: inactivating the entire coronavirus and then injecting people with the inactive strain. The pathogen is made harmless but retains its shape and the body’s immune system recognises the invader and produces antibodies to fight it off. Boris Johnson visited Valneva’s Scottish manufacturing site in Livingston in January and the UK had ordered around 100 million doses of the vaccine. However, last month the Government cancelled the contract, citing a breach of contract from Valneva related to the supply agreement.

In the new study, almost 2,000 participants over the age of 30 were given two doses – four weeks apart – of the Valneva jab, and then compared to 995 people who were given AstraZeneca. A further 1,040 people under 30 were given Valneva only. All analysis of antibody levels was done at Public Health England laboratories and the number of Covid-19 cases were similar between those given AstraZeneca or Valneva, the firm said, while there were no severe cases of disease.

A similar DNA vaccine has already been shown to be safe and effective in cancer patients and so should rapidly translate into the clinic for prevention of Covid-19.”

The Govt's early handling of Covid was discussed here last year and in view of objections to some comments made then, I think it fair to recount some more thoughts today. Taken from a reply to Ivy's 45511 over there :-

"Ivy thanks for your 45511 today. As you say, the Govt got a comprehensive bashing in the Report on the early handling of the Covid crisis and quite rightly so IMO ! If we take into account that they had weeks beforehand watching these horrors evolve in Italy and STILL made all these errors, the scale of this delinquence is given perspective. Quite appalling. Horrendous.

To see a repeat of a lunatic BJ on TV, rejoicing in his handshakes, while visiting stricken Hospitals, is incendiary. Further we still suffer in the UK because of BJ and the Govt's tardy, inconsistent and ambivalent stance on the wearing of masks/face coverings.

Comments in the Report also suggest flaws in the makeup of SAGE - the idea that the Govt was responsible for nothing because they were 'following the science' was always a sham of the worst kind.

Thank God for the vaccines indeed, but the Govt. should not then excuse itself. Don't start me off !! Oh you did LOL.

Moonparty thanks for raising the 'Competition' issue and Ivy for your comments. Bermuda thanks too for your summary (22 recs) which for me, highlights again that if the science in SCOV1/2 proves effective in the trials, Scancell should be in a very strong position indeed.

It is obvious how a successful trial of SCOV1/2 might fit into the widest picture re. Covid protection in the future and as noted in Marconi's 09.49, CEPI's latest tweet is about Partnerships to be announced shortly following a $200 million call - well the mind boggles !

Ray P draws his conclusions very nicely and I must say, I found the discussion MMMmmm - inspiring. As discussions on Scancell have been for my 11 years!!

Relevant to discussion of the 'start' - I've pulled these words of Bermuda from a post over there. Thanks Bermuda : "clinicaltrials.gov don't take their data from anywhere, it's up to Scancell to update the record . . . . .

I know you're probably already aware of this, but I'm not sure everyone understands the role of clinicaltrials.gov. All clinical trials MUST be registered on one of the WHO approved registries. clinicaltrials.gov is the US registry, it's by far and away the biggest and most bios will register their trials there regardless of whether or not they're being run in the US. There's also a EU registry and several others.

If there are any changes to the trial such as protocol changes,recruitment status, new study centres etc. then the record must be updated within 30 days. This will be done by Scancell, their CRO or possibly their Principal Investigator logging into the account and updating the record.

As far as the Covidity trial is concerned, the study status will be changed from 'not yet recruiting' to 'recruiting'. That may be the first sign we get that things are progressing as the patients obviously then have to be enrolled and screened but it's likely that an RNS won't be issued until the first patient is actually dosed."
