Although the UK Govt. have been dynamic in taking off the Covid restrictions you are quite right, we should not rest with the impression that all is well. That has yet to be proven, (to say the least).

Re. Covidity or any 'Universal' type vaccine - the World still has a desperate need.

Strangely, I have seen many snippets lately about the major players, incl. BioNTech/Pfizer, trying to advance Omicron specific vaccines.

I see there's no luck with an RNS today BUT I confidently predict, there will be an RNS tomorrow, (wink).

Good morning Krafty. As you say, the UK seems to face problems on many fronts. What did you think about the Govt. rescinding the Plan B restrictions? Myself I thought the move was a few weeks early than it should have been . . . I wondered if they were still 'following the science'. That's all.

Not to be too 'Gove-ish', but I think the Govt. have been a little early in releasing all Covid measures UK wide, (cases yesterday a massive 76,807). I doubt that many in the NHS will welcome that.

Bermuda I'm sorry. I don't get that ? The differences in the dpm rates with Japan are near 'supersonic', but of course there are compensating (and exacerbating) factors.

Just on one point, (clearly explained in the link you provided earlier - a positive), the Govt dismissed, ridiculed, played with, the benefits of face masks, (oh sorry, we can't call them that, they are 'face coverings, PMSL), and there we are.

Japan has 1/15th the dpm. OF COURSE, there will be other factors, but face masks etc. etc. are relevant.

Hi Ruck - no offence taken but your 'spoiler' is not credible IMO.

IMO Japan is a fair comparator - a major and populous industrial nation with similar GDP per head and a slightly higher density of population than the UK.

Japan's dpm 1/15th of the UK ! Surely it'd be good to learn how they might have achieved that - particularly after the UK's much lauded vaccine push.

Krafty re. your much admired 08.32 and this . . . "what is . . . . beyond doubt is that the government vaccine strategy from day 1(March 2020) has helped us get of this mess". There's a lot of enthusiasm around to support this 'all's well' 'pat on the back' stance and myself, I'm not quite sure why . . .

I do agree in so much as the Govt made a good appointment in Kate Bingham as head of the VTF and to their credit, backed her fully in the thrust to get the vaccines out there. I shudder to think where we would have been without that effort.

As for the rest, unfortunately the UK's 2193 dpm looks sad against one reasonable comparison, Japan 146 dpm with 1/15th of the UK's toll. Of course there are differences in environmental, cultural and recording factors around the World, but, nevertheless, such disparities, are mind blowing, to say the least.
