Ruck - "It's not as if the NHS as shut down is it?" - with respect I didn't say it was. Of course other treatments still continue. There have been comments that the waiting list for ops/procedures could escalate from 6 to 12 million soon ? Violin reports on the state of ICU already and we hear cases may escalate to 100k daily or much more in the next weeks.

IMHO clinical trials are certain to be impeded again, (despite the benefits of going ahead with them) and Konar has made good points. We have to hope Scancell can achieve some progress anyway but it looks not impossible but more difficult. Another benefit of 'Freedom' a la Boris ! What a shambles !

In passing, I hear info. that Police, Fire and Ambulance in this County have been put on maximum alert today, the same as during last year's horrors.

C7 with the rising no. of cases, night clubs now open etc. etc., the NHS is under increasing pressure and IMO, like night follows day, I'll be very surprised if Clinical Trials generally are not held up again.
Very disappointing but let's hope Scancell can make a little progress.

C7 perhaps you need to watch the news not hide from it before making charges that comments about BJ and his mass infection policy, are 'rhetoric' and 'politically driven'. I assure you that I post feeling great distress at the direction UK Covid policy is taking, with all the usual confusion surrounding most matters BJ deals with, (or doesn't).

Of course no-one wants to be in lockdown for the sake of it but until the virus is controlled as much as possible, the other choices have some hazards . .

We take responsibility for our actions but we are put at risk by those who do not. Thus we have 'Laws'- as earlier, "Relying on Folks exerting 'personal responsibility' - you must be joking BJ ! The spectacle in the streets, pubs, stadiums and the abuses on social media these last weeks has been depressing indeed. We have Laws on almost every aspect of personal behaviour to moderate and rebuke - why the hell is the Covid pandemic different ?"

Moonparty - with respect you rather miss the point. The comment I posted was not a comparison NZ/UK but a relevant Scientist's fears about BJ's mass infection policy. She happens to be from NZ - that's all.

Fed up or not, you are going to continue to see many comparisons made, for obvious reasons. There are relevant differences in the 2 situations but, we would be foolish just to cast any possible message aside out of hand. ATB

It'd be interesting to hear Violindog's update on that but I've heard some ICU's are already stretched and one has to wonder how clinical trials will be affected if cases reach the mooted 100,000 daily . . . . . 10% of those with long Covid ?

I'd be surprised if many NHS Staff are not traumatised and exhausted by the last 18 months so we present them now with a mass infection policy ? As for the economy and jobs, I'd guess good clear decisions throughout would have minimised damage. ATB
