I liked this bit12 Jan 2022 10:14
Anf. 63 Minister of Economic Affairs Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson (S)
Madam President! Perhaps a prerequisite is that the Minister of Economic Affairs likes mines. I think it is a great advantage that the Minister of Economic Affairs thinks that this is a good business. I have been a bit of a mining fan during all my years as LO chairman and have visited many mining operations. We are a great mining nation.
Mattias Karlsson must not think that we have gone down and that we are not a fantastic mining nation. Although we have been bad at starting new ones, the ones we run in Sweden have successfully contributed to large export incomes and have created many jobs, not least in the region Mattias Karlsson himself comes from. This is a very pleasant development.
I remember the time in the 80's when Norrbotten was always described as a crisis county, and we had to go there with crisis packages. We would build longer flight paths and all sorts of things to solve Norrbotten's problems. Today, Norrbotten has Sweden's lowest unemployment rate and Västerbotten has Sweden's second lowest unemployment rate. Much of the industrial development has contributed to us having faith in the future throughout northern Sweden. Much of this, Mattias Karlsson, is due to the mines.
Mines not only involve bringing a mineral to the surface in one place, but they involve an amazing number of other jobs around it. There are even those who claim that the whole reason why Sweden is so leading in other industrial activities, such as trucks and cars, is our fine mineral resource and that the need to refine the minerals into finished products, such as trucks, drills and everything we do in our large, fine companies, was seen early on.
You can judge me eventually if it's in the near future I mean when I say near future. But when I say the near future, I mean the near future.
The interpellation debate was now closed.
