Hope I'm wrong but fear the worst - that the vultures are back. What puzzles me is the lack of real news coming out of the company despite the recent impressive management reinforcements coming to the aid of the publicity-illiterate academic geniuses.
On average an RNS comes out every fortnight but contain nothing but the inevitable "jam tomorrow " inference, never any real sunshine news, such as new orders, contracts, tie-ups or take-over approaches. Take the latest RNS: some unheard-of organisation making an unheard-of award - about as earth-shattering as a Boy Scout getting his troop leader badge to put on his shoulder. N o doubt, as usual, a great bit of paper for the academic dons to stick on the boardroom wall but so what ? News? Not at all, mere trivia.
I hopr I'm totally wrong about the vulture bandits but what can we expect in the absence of real news?
Another two weeks before the next RNS (jam tomorrow again?). Meanwhile, do we get the haunting prospect of back to the 50s?
Can't see anything to get excited about. On the contrary, the company is bust,'needs reorganising from top to bottom, IQE takes on its debts and is responsible for its future financing. I'm sure the IQE wizards have got it right today but yei again we have that interminable jam tomorrow.
Don't get me wrong! I'm not calling for directors to buy solely to make money - certainly they've enough salary and perks to make some BBC incomes look like peanuts! No, I'm suggesting they make some token buys ~ say 20,000 or more - to indicate confidence in the company, that it is in good health . Such a move would be just as good as an RNS , would re-assure bona fide investors and certainly help the share price. Let me emphasise that phrase: "would re-assure bona fide investors." Oh, for a PR presence at this company. This is exactly what such a rep would advise in my experience as a PR man (Open University, Volkswagen GB, Sothebys and many years as a national Press journalist).
I won't be able to make the agm. But could someone ask the top table if IQE has ever received a takeover approach- simply "yes" or "no". Also; what is the progress in appointing a public relations representative they said they were looking for - needed so very urgently. Thanks.
Friendly contacts at IQE ( phone 0292-083-9400):
Chris Meadows, who deals with marketing and public relations, and Sarah Bate, personal assistant to Drew Nelson, who told me: "If anyone wishes to write to Dr Nelson I will certainly make sure he gets it."
So don't let us be shy - they are mere mortals and do talk! See you all on Fireworks Day, June 25, at the Village Hotel.
Well, it seems they're back, the hedge fund vultures and shorters and they're in for a whale of a profitable time with, as usual, nothing from IQE to counter-act them. It's no good relying on a medal for this, a certificate for that; hard news is needed by the Press: a large new order, a tie-up with another company, entry into a new market, take-over overtures. News releases of that sort would soon put the skids under the quick-buck parasites. I feel it's time we took up Mr T.E. Williams' recent call for change at the top at IQE. Quite rightly, he paid tribute to Drew Nelson's sterling work in making IQE the world leader in its field, at the same time suggesting the company needs a chief executive officer with proven experience in driving a company forward. "Drew is clearly outstanding but for IQE would be best suited as the head of all research and technical applications" wrote Mr Williams. Now, we have two new executives on board, Phil Smith and Tim Pullen, men with vast experience of the business world. Surely, they are the ones to lead IQE forward! We are dissatisfied shareholders having seen the share price collapse from 170p to the present 69p and therefore have every reason to demand a change at the top. To this end, I hope present management will see this message, agree with its reasoning and act accordingly. Alternatively, we can always lobby the leading forces behind IQE, the Welsh government, Cardiff University and Cardiff City Council. Certainly, it's time for change.
You always write a lot of well-thought-out remarks. My hat off to you - must be the no-nonsense Welsh in you! i'm an English associate -member of the London Welsh Club, must have a drink with you if you get up this way. Meanwhile, don't go away!
I endorse diplomat65's greetings and good wishes to Mr Pullen. .Trouble is management doesn't read the notice board as i discovered in a recent phone talk with (ahem) "PR man" Chris Meadows. How can this deficiency be overcome? I've given up.
