still in here every day for a nosey stokey. not wanting to sound like a huffy, grumpy aul fecker, but i can't be ****d chatting on the board here these days. i correspond directly though with half a dozen or so of the folks who post here, yas know who yas are.
i'm still very much invested here, and indeed done 2 additional top ups last week. i'm not doing any short term trading of harl these days and my current holdings now are all longer term holds.
i really do appreciate your postings and the postings of quite a few of the posters here, but there's a lot of nonsense spoke here in recent times too. i don't and won't filter anyone, i'm too afraid of missing anything. i just lift my ball and don't play in the meantime (big child that i am, lol).
as for belfast, i'm told (by someone not in harl, but in the know), that the guys and gals on the shopfloor appear to be busy. the word on the street (or on the tools) is that the workforce seem to be relatively happy campers as well.
i'm just hoping some of us investors might have something to smile about soon.
going for a wee drink now from my 'half full' cup.
ttny
It took me a sec, but brilliant Lotts !
The Harl, 'Post of the Year' award is currently with you, lol.
It looks like the Sun Shine had her exhaust pipes thoroughly clean while she was in Belfast. She's motoring rightly though, and is currently heading up the Antrim coast on her way to Germany.
I have to say though that i was initially a little concerned when i seen the headline.
Nothing to see here though.

Cheers K, i think i might be a little mad though sometimes, lol.
Si. With that location description my mind wandered there, and for a moment i was practically with you and hearing those sea gulls too. The sound of an ice cream van's music would have just completed my idealic daydream.
Anyway. Away from sanity and seagulls, i'm intrigued as to how this Scillonian scenario will play out. I do firmly believe there's a game of chess going on with H&W and the IoSSC. The RNS on it just before the JR result has brought the game out into the public now !
Sure hasn't it distracted us from those big holes in the ground discussion thing at this Magee Island place.
Si. This might sound crazy, but i wouldn't rule our Scilly Isles guys out as potential customers for us to build the Scillonian IV.
Just thinking out loud here so please do bear with me :-
- Could a while back Harl have seen themselves maybe not getting the new build of the Scilly IV, and our guys have then said lets build a big boat ourselves, and run the ferry service ourselves ?
- Could the Scilly Isles ferry guys never in a hundred years have seen that coming from H & W. (Us investors never seen it coming)
- Could this have spooked them, that they might have probs if another service provider was to offer what they've being doing for a very long time ?
- Do H & W want to go into ferry work (tied to a 5 year contract of service), instead of just build a ferry ?
- Do the Scilly Isles ferry service and H & W top brass talk to each other. Could there still be ongoing negotiations between them ?
- Do the Scilly Isles ferry guys ask themselves, 'how do we blow this H & W lot outta the water, that we can continue to offer this service' (and also have the monopoly on it too) ?
- If they were to ask themselves that, would saying to H & W 'clear off you lot, we're gonna be the operator going forward. . . oh, and we want you guys to build our boat now', maybe get H & W to reconsider their building and running a ferry service.
- Could H & W subsequently 'review' their operating dreams, and now find that they would simply like to build the Scillonian IV (and not operate it) ?
- Could some mischievous or even cynical and sceptical folk even be questioning if H & W even want to be an actual operator ?
- Do negotiations (or games those mischievous folk might say) take place in the world of business ? Can 2 parties both be winners in these business negotiations ?
.
.
- Could the Scillonian ferry guys and Harl both win from negotiations ? This is the only one of my own questions that I'm going to answer here, and I believe the answer is a very firm YES ! ! Both parties will need to chat to each other though to do this, and i don't imagine they've ever stopped talking to each other.
.
.
To those who say I'm maybe on the waccy baccy and booze tonight with this post, i can understand why you might think that. I'd say back to you though, have an open mind and don't let anything surprise you ! !
My current feeling of my holding here is very sorta hmmmmmm !
I prefer to obviously have strong positive feelings going forward on any stock, or to have a fear of a tumble (but the potential for a good spurt up to still exist).
To have this feeling of treading water with no great potential to rise or fall has me a little bored to be honest. I need to give this stock some thought and would welcome any thoughts from equally frustrated investors.
Why do i still login here daily hoping to see an RNS of an update on where we are ?
I still do it though and i'm hoping for some news soon (and hopefully positive news at that)
Here's a link to the H & W website for a little more info on the harl team.
https://www.harland-wolff.com/meet-the-team/
The reason for this post is i believe that Harl have recently attracted many more new investors, and those investors are maybe coming here for a mixture of reasons. It makes sense that many investors will have done their own research before investing here, and this research could be anything from the extremes of, 'my mate Joe in the pub said this was cert' to some very detailed and in depth research of reports, accounts, markets, etc.
On your own heads be it, lol, but your research may have also included reading a lot of back threads on this LSE board, and if that's been the case you'll see a lot of references to a JW, a Mr Wood, thon boyo, John, the boss, him, Wood, the main man, that chancer, and i think someone once said the Messiah for H & W in Belfast.
Regardless of names, i believe the above person to be the same man, (and a very capable man in my eyes), who is at our Harl helm right now.
I'd however encourage folk to have a look at and do some research on 2 other members of the H & W board, Arun Ramun and Katya Zotova. These 2 folk could be even bigger names and influencing factors when it comes to how the Islandmagee asset is progressed (albeit JW as CEO will be the guy with the final say on it).
I've met Arun several times now and his CV in the energy sector is a very impressive one. His contacts in this sector are equally impressive. Yeah, yeah, the guy's a bean counter* accountant type bloke, but one that very much knows his way around commodities markets and particularly the gas and energy sectors. This guy (again in my eyes) is our biggest strength in negotiating and maximizing the asset value in Islandmagee, whatever the direction IM goes in.
Katya i haven't met, but i certainly have extensively researched this lady, and her background very clearly tells me she has been brought in for Islandmagee, and progressing this (again, in whatever direction that might be).
My point is that i feel we have a great team in Harl, and in particular, we have the perfect team to be going forward to get the best possible outcome for IM. I'm just busting to know now what direction that could be.
Anyway, all the best here folks for all LTH's, all Newbies and everyone in between.
TTNY (* also a type of bean counter )
It's good to see a double digit blue day today. That Gov back SCGS news today has given the share price a welcome nudge up.
It's been well publicised too in the local press with the big 3 N Ireland newspapers here giving it good coverage (Tele, Newsletter & Irish News).

The word on the water is that Norbay came in for emergency repairs as it was having issues with the prop and shaft.
More specifically, I've heard that the issue is with the oil distribution box which connects to the reduction gearbox. I can't verify though if this is correct or not.
Not being in any way mechanically minded, this means nothing to me though.
Jees Rols, i was only a few hundred yards from you last weekend. We were moho-ing and were parked up at the Ardowen theatre for a few days. Pop me an email or text through if you're up again soon.
For anyone interested the Altera vessel list is attached below. There are some big gurls on this list and I wouldn't be surprised to see another one of these in later on this year.
https://alterainfra.com/vessels
Typo 279M x 49M vessel
I've had time on my hands today Mr Ski, and have been having a wee nosey on tinternet re some of my pennies, and where they're invested.
What i found most encouraging about 'Current Spirit' coming in tomorrow, was not that it's coming into the SRQ and scheduled for 7 days to be here, but on who actually owns this vessel.
It's own by Altera Infrastructure, the same owner of Dorset Spirit who docked in H & W Belfast in late 2021. Dorset Spirit is a huge 279M x 439M vessel. The Altera fleet of vessels is around 40 in number and most of these are in the 250 to 300M size.
When a big player like Altera are a repeat customer, it sends a good message out to the industry that H & W are maybe good guys to do business with and certainly does enhance the H & W reputation out there.
It's good to see this update re Arnish in the Stornaway News. It's even better to see the work is being reported to having been completed on schedule too.

Broomtree, advocado and prawns, ya flash git ya, lol.
I remember a similar date where I took a girl to Saints and Scholars 30 odd years ago. It was university area of Belfast and long gone now. Anyway, I ordered whitebait as I thought it sounded posh, as she was a poshie gal (with ne punching well above my weight, lol). Longish story short. She was horrified that I was eating baby fish and told me very clearly there would be no courtin after my menu mistake, lol.
True Kaeren about the UKEF, I'm just wondering too has IM another link to the financing not being confirmed yet ?
I know JW has been beating the 'we can progress this ourselves' drum very firmly (and i would want and expect him to do this), but this guy could have anything up his sleeve with negotiations he might have had with other interested parties.
He obviously has to keep his cards close to his chest, but I believe him to be a fairly shrewd individual with an open mind as to outcomes for IM.
If he had a buyer lined up with 100M to give for IM, it may also influence the level of finance being sought.
Again, me just thinking out loud here, sometimes my thoughts being reasonable, and sometimes it could be argued that my brain is filled with wee sweety mice, with little logic. . . . And yes, wee sweety mice is a real term used here in Norn Iron, lol.
Cindy & Si. Your Bangor comments have me thinking back to the olden days when I lived in Bangor too. I've some great memories from there. Wolsey's, Whoppers and their great burgers, the Loosebox up the entry, Paul's for their amazing greasy but tasty chips, the putting green where the big clock is, the roller disco at Ballyholme, the Ward Park rabbits, upstairs for desserts in the Skandia, going out fishing on the White Heather, etc.
I guess my first interest in these big floaty boats started in Bangor too. Little did I know then that I'd be throwing dough at them with investing in later years.
Anyway. Back to reality (and that's Tyrone now), and back to financially related stuff too. The Islandmagee judicial review at the start of May is definitely gonna be a biggie for us at Harl, depending on what way the decision goes. (I'm very positive btw).
Thinking out loud here, but could the delay in the decision / announcement re the financing package be related to the IM decision ? ? ?
If the JR goes as we would like it to, then IM will be a very valuable asset for backing up finance and therefore influencing interest terms, and if there was any type of sale of the Islandmagee project, then the sale value could be expected to be significantly higher than the current market cap alone. An increased bank balance from any sale (or even partial sale of some kind) could also mean more favourable financing terms.
The more I think about it, the IM outcome is very very much influencing what direction our refinancing terms might go (so we may not get a financing announcement until after the JR).
Good luck folks with your investments, the next few weeks will be interesting here.
Sorry folks, the link isn't working.
It was great though to see Samson lifting this big load. It's not every day (or every week or month even) that Samson's massive lifting abilities are utilised in The Yard.
Ta for the instructional Si. I've no excuses in the future not to post pic links, lol.
I've pasted the link below, but not sure if it can be opened as the group is set to private.
