Everything You Need To Know About Mercedes-Benz's Hands-free Driving31 Oct 2023 19:02
But how is the Drive Pilot different from the Active Driver Assist Systems we’ve grown accustomed to, you might ask? Well, simply put, the Drive Pilot offers a Level 3 of Autonomous Driving, which is still very scarce, and quite hard to legalize. This means that drivers can (technically, but not necessarily legally) text, watch videos, and interact with passengers, without having to watch the road or keep their hand on the steering wheel.
So, why do current ADAS options, such as the Tesla Autopilot get criticized for basically allowing you to do the same thing, occasionally? Well, it’s basically because they aren’t adequately equipped yet, to be given complete control of the vehicle, hence why they require extra caution. The Drive Pilot, on the other hand, is slightly more sophisticated and allows for more freedom, thanks to a plethora of additional safety accessories and years of engineering. However, this newly-found freedom is not boundless, unfortunately, and comes with a fair share of regulation. Nonetheless, it is a massive step towards a new era in the automotive industry, so we've decided to explain all of its ins and outs.
