the 2024 model refresh cycle continues apace at bmw group, now the latest reveal is the new fourth-generation x3 #suv, shown in the image top left and featuring the distinctive curved display. shown bottom left is the third-generation x3, which has been in production since 2017 and is being phased out. as with other bmw models, the latest generation x3 dms is assessed to be from seeing machines, replacing the previous system from smart eye.
bmw has standardized on #dms integration within the instrument cluster, and is assumed to be using a #****pit #domain #controller running operating system 8/8.5/9 on the third-generation qualcomm ****pit #applicationsprocessor.
on the right side of the image below are first quarter 2024 production volumes of bmw models sourced from bmw blog. in first quarter alone bmw produced more than 530,000 vehicles. bmw is in a race with volkswagen group for which #automaker has the most vehicles in production with a #driver #monitoring #system in 2024.
as noted in post https://lnkd.in/etm5d9ft, the assumption is vw will start integration of the magna international occupant monitoring mirror with high volume model platforms, such as the #tiguan, #polo and #passat. the vw brand has fifteen models with annual production volumes exceeding 100,000 units; the Ĺ koda auto brand has another five at this volume. similarly to bmw, vw looks to be going for a standardized integration strategy, in this case providing driver and occupant monitoring from the rear-view mirror. the magna mirror is assumed to be based on a texas instruments #sitara processor, also running dms/oms software from seeing machines.
added together, the assumption is just the bmw and vw programs will lead to dms deliveries exceeding 1 million units per quarter within the next twelve months. after many years of delays and frustration, 2024 will be the year dms deliveries finally exceed ten million units.
the may 2024 edition of semicast's market report "adas & automotive vision-based driver monitoring systems" is available for purchase now. 2023 is the base year for analysis with forecasts out to 2030. analysis is provided for the dms market both in terms of units and revenues, and by geographic region into: north america, europe, japan, china, south korea, india, russia, brazil, and rest of the world.
