Genedrive has the only beaded format in the UK, not sure world wide who also has it. If the government go with them then that will take Cytiva capacity. Why would they? Because compared to others like NCYT it's all pre-dosed, just add sample, and it room temperature stable so you know need to reconstitute before use and store in fridges or freezers. Could be very big for us. Oh and the same test can run on Genedrive POC for venue, workplace testing etc.

I actually think its the infrastructure to process the tests that is wrong. PHE took the wrong decision to do everything centrally. That can't possibly work. They need regional centres to process regional samples. They also need to look at the Genedrive test as it can work using less expensive and more ubiquitous PCR machines with the final analysis done on the qPCR machines. This will greatly increase throughput due through instrument availability. PHE did not think of this.

The governments 10m tests per day requires 33,000 realtime instruments and 1.5 GDR plates to be processed every second just for context

220,000 tests =
220 BC units
2,292 GDR plates
191 realtime PCR machines or more likely 191 standard PCR machines and 25 realtime PCR machines and 5x staff

Bottom line is there are no direct detection test available or that have a proven sensitivity. The only sensitive solution is an amplification based test.

Sounds like some interesting developments and Indian approval imminent. Does anyone know if anyone asked DIVOC what volume of molecular tests they're expecting to undertake?
