For those new to this board I came across a great link that illustrates some of the similarities between the Sirius Minerals project and the Fortescue mining project in Australia from 2006. Are we missing something industry wide here folks? I can't find an explanation for such a dramatic fall. Catena Media are also suffering a 50% decline in their price although this was triggered when their largest institutional shareholder and the founder stepped out albeit another institutional holder stepped in to replace them.

As many of you may know Chris Fraser was involved in the debt financing of the Fortescue mining project in Australia between 2006 and 2008, hence the link with Gina Rinehart. At the time many were sceptical about the prospect of building the mine and associated rail infrastructure in such a remote location. Ultimately, the company built a A$2.5Bn (£1.3Bn) railway line of its own.

China’s Ganfeng Lithium, one of the country’s largest producers of the raw material used in batteries, priced its initial public offering in Hong Kong at the bottom of its expected range, raising $422m.

The company sold 200m shares at HK$16.50, according to a person familiar with the deal. It had initially sought a range of HK$16.50 to HK$26.50.

A new article in Investors Chronicle this afternoon examining the timing of the senior debt package with anticipated completion Q1 2019. "The two analysts offering one-year price targets for the stock have a median target of 50p".

I think you hit the nail on the head there. It's pure jealousy. Chris Fraser is going to bag north of £100m while Dan Mcrum relies on scraps from the FT.

Dan McCrum is probably the worst financial journalist out there. Why the FT pay him for some of the rubbish he writes is beyond me. He definitely has a problem with Sirius. Maybe he missed out and wants back in at a lower price. That's not going to happen the project is advancing at pace now and the share price will move closer to NPV. There are too many big players involved from Archers Daniels Midland to HM Gov. Gina Rhinehart wouldn't have handed Sirius the $250m without knowing the full extent of the Stage 2 debt financing negotiations. It's going to happen and the UK is going to deliver a world class mining project.

Useful article here about the commercialisation of lithium clay deposits. I know Joe Lowry has been adverse to lithium from clay in the past but recently commented that things my be changing given the Lithium Americas new Thacker Pass project which is a good comparative to the Bacanora feasibility study.

The Barrick deal with Shandong Gold for the Veladero mine in Argentina may form a precedent here. In that instance the Chinese paid Barrick $1Bn for a 50% stake in a mine that produced 830,000 ounces per year. In 2017 Acacia produced 2017 gold production of 767,883 ounces. Acacia currently has an enterprise value of £346m.
