But why, Nige? Why sell these and buy Bellway AT A LOSS. They're not going to do any better in the short-mid term. Selling something good that's temporally down, at a loss, then buying something else to try and recoup, usually ends up as tears at bedtime. There was a guy on here once - might still be on here - who posted that he'd become addicted to that strategy - a sad, sad, story indeed. Wish I could remember his monocle... Probably living on the streets now, poor guy.

Think this little story needs telling again. Just before the credit crunch, I bought bdev @ 100p per share. In a short time they were (sorry for the pun) c-r-u-n-c-h-e-d to 50p. It took 18months for them to reach 180p. No, never sell these boys at a loss even if your starving, dying of thirst and have to walk around waving a begging bowl! The big boys kept away this time because of concerns of future skilled labour shortage in the building trade, which to me is short sighted. Barratts have had a healthy, growing apprentice scheme going for a while. (Have you noticed gold's gone up a little bit?!)

Has Nige sold up here and floated off to the TW board? And started day trading there?

Have you heard the story of two guys who would say something positive about a share then quickly undermine that positivity by saying something negatively shaky about the same share... because they were under the illusion that they could manipulate the market in their favour? Stupid boys, probably didn't even know they were doing it half of the time. Almost subliminal.

Don't worry, this'll be back with a vengeance - it's way under priced. Just think of the big div on its way and don't worry about the sp dropping afterwards (if it does this time). I've been successfully in and out of bdev over the years and like you and other peeps on here have sometimes bought high when |I thought I'd bought low. But, word of warning... never, ever sell bdev at a loss.

Unless, of course, you're down to your last bag of chips and bottle of bubbly... then it's just about permissible to do so.

Did someone post that post div day the company will buy back a large number of its shares, and that that would push up the sp? Or did I read it in some paper?

Think some peeps here haven't kept their eyes on the big picture - the imminent DIVIDEND yield. Then again, your focus would be determined by the amount of bdev shares you held... as a dividend chaser. If you're just chasing (sell) profit... well, a crystal ball, cracked or intact, is as good a medium as any other.
