Yes OWLS all the footsies have been hit this year by a treble whammy: Brexit, Trump, China - too big a Sea Change for the markets to cope with. And sentiment buying went mostly out the window. But like you say, 2019 could be a great opportunity for cheap buying, and I'm just not talking about the retail trade! Debs 50% off. I need a new pair of slippers... Wonder if Amazon is selling drawbridges for a knocked down price...

Hi Owls, I sold my Superdry shares for profit a few years ago and never returned. I was never attracted to the other stocks you mentioned as I thought they'd become problematic at some point - won't go into it all here, take too long and I'd hate to bore myself and others. Ok. Just one, and only briefly... TC was bound to be overwhelmed by on line cut-throat competition. Their margins had been shrinking for years (yawn) Their 'older' loyal generation of crusties who had supported them from the year dot had been literally dying off and their up and coming 'younger' replacements had become computer literate and were overwhelmed by the cheaper and more diversified competition they could see on the small screen. After trying a raft of survival tactics over a period of time,TC had no option but to raise its head above the parapet and wave the white flag of surrender. Merry Christmas.

I read between your chancer lines. Don't you realize that you only lose money on a share when you sell at a price lower than the one you bought at? (Even newbies know this.) How can I have a big paper loss if I bought lots of these shares years ago at a low price and held them for the div.
