Interesting day17 Dec 2018 17:13
Wow.. what a day. Not the best start to the week. Tried to trade out in the morning to avoid the inevitable drop, but obviously couldn't. Were either in Auction or suspended for first 5 mins. Not seen it like that before. So... what to take from today? Well.. clearly November was a tough trading month, but appears to have been tougher on ASOS than Boo and I guess that is one of the main points here, being that Boo is on a different part of the growth trajectory and so i think their update will be more of a positive one than we think. I mean by saying "comfortably inline" i think is a way of saying, we are doing well, but can't give away all our secrets yet. They are still breaking records. This may also act as a catalyst to get the PLT deal done early to keep investors happy. Also, if we do head into a recession (I don't personally think we will anytime soon) people will shift their spending to affordable fashion. Lets also not forget that Boo is growing massively abroad and i think the Asos update to some extent is more UK focused so I expect to see great gains in the US etc. The ASOS RNS did seem to try and blame the wider market, but I wonder if there is more internal issues especially with the cash they are burning, perhaps they have credit / supplier / ranging issues. They would not admit it at this stage and its better from their pov to put out a negative rns that takes out the competition as well. I think we may be eating their Market Share. Good on the guys at Boo getting a RNS out this morning.
Other than that, isn't it funny how GLG and all the other hedge funds up their shorts right before a warning?? i'm sure they meet management etc, but smells very fishy. leaked information?? without a doubt.
All very disappointing, but i can hold for the next 10 years if i need to. Going to make an interesting next few weeks. Shame its over Christmas, but I have a feeling we'll get back on a positive track soon. Hopefully a good bounce tomorrow. Always good to remember warren Buffets mantras in times like these, which are basically if you believe in the company for the future, just buy and hold forever.
