Friendly warning to new investors8 Sep 2020 12:59
I was once a new investor and could have done with advice like this when I started out.
A couple of months ago you might have joined this board having invested and seen comments like:
"This will be £4.00 near to the results"
"This will move up weekly by 5 - 10% in the build up to the trading statement"
"Easily £3.50 by September"
"RNS any day now"
"This will fly soon"
"Gonna break out, £3.20 by the afternoon"
Where I am also guilty of some over exuberance, you really need to take all of the ramping with a pinch of salt, because if you look back at the last two months the reality is:
1. Some of those people predicting those fanciful share price movements, actually just sell up and leave the board
2. High Profile Hedge Funds start shorting the stock
3. A coordinated attack from the press remains relentless with a clear agenda
4. An RNS with a guidance update doesn't actually appear
5. The shares reacts to global macro issues keeping the price depressed (Nasdaq, Brexit, Covid, GDP figures etc)
6. Volume actually remains low on some days and the share price remains directionless
So whereas I am willing to risk capital for the trading update or close to it, it really is worth bearing in mind if you are new investor to remember how things actually were vs how members on forums like this say they are going to be. That way you wont be surprised and disappointed if expectations dont meet reality.
