The Stornoway Masterplan is quietly putting the infrastructure in place to facilitate the growth of the Offshore Wind Industry. They have started dredging work to create a Deepwater Terminal that will allow amongst other things vessels needed to support the Offshore Wind Industry to berth. In addition a new link road is being built to link HARL (Arnish) and the Deepwater Terminal. This means that materials can be fabricated and shipped out in an integrated fashion.

Ksp747 ref 08.55 post In principle I agree with your sentiment. But in relation to your last sentence I would observe that HARL and indeed any defence contractor can only do what thy are contracted to do. So HARL can only scale up their operations in response to orders from gvovernments.

An interesting argument between two former soldiers. I found this particularly illuminating

LSE03 ref 10.21 post I note that some of those decisions relate to 2022/23 pay remits. I hope that some people are not getting a pay increase this year.

Reflecting back I think it was when he said something to the effect that he has to ensure that the decision is not unreasonable. I accept that I may be reading more into that than there is.

Xenor ref 10.02 You have that right whoever loses the JR can appeal to the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal. From there whoever loses has to apply to the UK Supreme Court for permission to appeal. The UK Supreme Court is very stingy when it comes to granting permission. I have not checked but I think they only grant permission in about 70 cases a year. To get permission it has to be a matter of general public importance.

Kaeren ref 20.38 post my point was that if the only benefit of going to the show was to get more ship maintenance work then I do not see HARL getting much benefit as they make £10m+ already from this. If on the other hand, and from what was said last year when they attended, the purpose is to get new ship build orders in the absence of the Home Shipping Credit Guarantee Scheme will limit the benefit HARL will get from attending.

I would observe that ship new builds are needed to prove that they can build as well as repair ships.
