solstace ref 09.31 post I find myself agreeing with Andy King'scomment where he says.
'Really interesting opportunity John, but for the extremely high level of SQEP this Strategy Manager position undoubtedly needs, in order for them to really push on with revitalising and rebuilding the UKs national shipbuilding capabilities, for the 'best athlete' incumbent to move from within our industry to NSO means they are going to have to take a significant pay cut!
It's more a 'passion not pounds' position, and shipbuilding passion in bucketfulls is what this role is crying out for, someone who will run through brick walls for our industry, but unfortunately it doesnt work if they are still having to pay the bills!
There have been some really good people leaving posts in industry related organisations/RTO's etc for much higher paying jobs with private companies in the industry lately, who in their former roles had similar remits to grow and reinvigorate our industry and this will, I fear, have a detrimental effect on the industry as a whole....salaries in the civil service such as this one, and in related organisations as I mention, need aligning with industry to attract our best athletes.'
HARL can really benefit with these posts but I do not see the civil service salary being high enough to attract suffciiently high calibre people. At least the NSO is making the effort and I hope they succeed.
