Haha! Fully aware don't worry! Do you regret getting into it yourself?
My father trades for a living and has done since I can remember, precious metals foremost. I used to sit and watch his ADVFN board go green and red as a child and cheer every time it was green... Of course he's done extremely well but still can pinpoint the days where I was told "don't disturb dad today he's very upset". It's a horrible game I know but for a side game it's fun and, to date, very profitable for me.
I personally would never dissuade those looking to have a punt myself however those with pensions are a different kettle of fish. In response to your claim of gambling, to me roulette is gambling and the markets don't fall into that personally. Yes you can lose it all, yes you can become addicted to it but you must appreciate it's a lot different to just "sticking it all on black".
For me personally it's not just about the profits either. I own quite a large business and the knowledge I've gained from researching specific investments alone is invaluable.
If profits were guaranteed no one would go to work tomorrow so of course you can come off badly but for our demographic (excluding 212 and RH trading at your fingertips) I think anyone who even shows a vague interest in the markets should be entitled to a punt as takes at least a good level intelligence rather than shoving it on a horse. Not to mention without them we would probably be worse off!
