Out of interest, after seeing this conversation, have started tracking comments and their sentiment on chat boards and their effect on price action, as this conversation has come up a couple of times now and am interested to see if there is a relational effect.

I don't think there is honestly anything wrong with shorting in itself. It is in reality just an opposing position to a long.

The problem is when shorts try to influence the price & investor sentiment via FUD, misinformation & Whataboutism. Ramping has the same effect though, someone is financially benefiting from overly spreading positivity or negativity.

Most of the markets that I can think of, short positions are allowed.

dickie3times I have seen it enough times on LSE board to recognise it fairly well now.

They generally follow defeat in detail tactics, you will suddenly get rafts of single digit accounts attacking the most positive posters on a board. Their aim is to slowly pick off the most vocal supporters of a stock.

This should not be confused with the ones who are long term investors who have sold out and are just doing it to justify their actions and the ones with genuine personality disorders who like to make people feel bad.

@carpfisher some people like to leave a house tidy when they leave, some people like to leave a poop in the toilet, mostly so they prove to themselves they left at the right time and no one else should enjoy it.

Sorry, but I disagree with you partially there.

Yes, it will go up and down as people see opportunity in, some will be converted too long term holders, some won't.

Thats what bring excitement to a stock and pushes you up through the levels, you are never going to just get a load of people long term holding as your MCAP increases. Some will buy quickly, some will hang one.

It's a much better scenario than this just having it's flash in the pan and then everyone moving onto the next one.

I find anything over 4 hours is useless for a stock going through a re-rate.

If there is one thing I have learned, is don't sell when the RSI is in the basement unless the press hate you (cough cough Boohoo).

All depends on how much profit taking there is at 2, as nice round number and people are silly.
