RE: CINE22 Apr 2020 11:48
AMC, the US no.1 chain, is on the brink of bankruptcy. Wall Street predicts 25% of all cinemas will close in the US in the coming months. China opened, and then reclosed again, all its cinemas. Lost in Russia went straight to streaming in China, swerved all cinemas, and got an astonishing 600 million views. Disney's Artemis Foul has gone straight to Disney Plus streaming (not the cinema). Not only are consumers changing their habits, but film studios are, too. They see the eyeballs in-home are many, many times higher than cinema, opening a way for gigantic advertising budgets on streaming services. The cinema looks increasingly outdated and from the past.
The post-virus world is emerging -- and the cinema is not in it.
