Their recently oncology approvals and pipeline has come under the radar so I wouldnt write them off just yet. Their quarterly reports tend to spring a good suprise here or there. The problem I think is that US money is more interested over their side of the pond as it is more drab on the FTSE here so thats more likely why the pullback.
Good posts Fleccy. We have all invested a lot on vaccines and there is no reason to slate AZN just because one person favours another company more. No uproar about Pfizer/Biontech cutting their production which is funny. All companies working hard to improve the situation so agree AZN has been made a scapecoat by the EU due to their inadequate procurement. They showed their true colours when they tried to invoke Article 16.
Also fleecy great point. AZN is being unfairly targetted when all companies are currently struggling to make the high demands needed. They are also addressing the problem and solved the glitch in the Belgian plant. People need to stop politicizing vaccines or slating them off since any vaccines approved by drug regulators work for the purpose of stopping the pandemic
We in the UK actually dont have to be. Got plenty of the Astra vaccine production and the Novovax vaccine is made here. All the vaccines work so dont neccesarily need to depend on mRNA only. Also the EU has toned down the dialogue and will not ban vaccines to affect contractual agreements we have which is a whole lot better than the EU contracts.
Yep thats basically the situation but all the companies will need to continue producing their own to vaccinate billions around the world as their technologies are different. Great news theres so much options now, all equally important
Its not as simple as that. It would take a long time to reconfigure the set up as both are different technologies. All the companies will continue to produce their own and all equally as good for the pandemic. Remember all their efficacies are better than the flu vaccine/most other vaccines and that is what is needed.
The only reason Sanofi/GSK can do that is they have to go back to square 1 and reconfigure their shot so for now they can quite easily change the manufacturing processes as it is not geared up for their shot yet. Also it takes too long to do so.
Yep approved for over 18. See all that slandering was pointless. The J&J had similar efficacy too which is good news for all as well. Its funny to see the contrast in reaction between the 2, so much bias in the US when both have similar efficacy and no ones complaining!
No doubt people will say the J&J one is "better" because its one dose but all vaccines are equally important and that one wont come till later in the year. When it does hopefully we can get everyone vaccinated!
Papucel- Basically AZN rightly started their trials with the young and it has been said the amount of over 65s was not statistically significant. But AZN has followed up with antibody levels etc which proves it does generate an equally good response in the elderly and various regulators are confident. Obviously now they will have lots more data so that would be proven at some point and it will become statistically significant. Thats the hold up with FDA approval basically, but Im sure the EMA will approve today for over 65s too as the evidence is still very strong.
The clinical trial is blinded. During the trial the partcipant would not know whether they had a placebo or the actual vaccine.
Only after approval it is a legal requirement for what you said.
During the trial there is an arguement they did not include enough over 65s but we shall see what the stance will be of the EU tomorrow. There is however suffcient data for the MHRA and various drug regulatory bodies around the world to approve it for over 65s as they have followed up with antibody response etc.
The claims relate more to the way they held the trials and how they were disatified it was not disclosed. Clinical trials do not work like that. You cant disclose and reveal data as you want the study to be blinded and non biased. The trial design is not an error, and the actual error with the dosing was cleared with the regulatory body to continie the trial. You cant disclose trial details to investors or the participants in any way.
This is not a financial regulatory claim, more of investors being claimed to be mislead when they werent at any stage.
I would suggest reading the full context on the IG news platform and the actual claims by the plantiffs in the law suit.
The copy and pasted above is incomplete and does not give the full context as the vaccine has been approved as safe and effective in the elderly contrary to what hes been trying to suggest.
Tr64 you have no idea why prices differ. Astra has set up production chains for different part of the world. There are price differences everywhere in the continent, so naturally the price will fluctuate depending on which part of the world it is in, and similarly fluctuations in raw materials will exist. Astras financial report will be scrutinized and we shall see then.
Interesting but the lawsuit will not go anywhere.
Investors and trial participants arent at privy to know the full trial design and set up. Only the healthcare institutions involved and the company will know the information. Investors are not at privy to know the trial design. If you have a look at the claims in the class action law suit (on the IG platform news) its a case of investor sour grapes. Many of us have lost money over that period in the stock and its all a part of putting your money in the stock market.
Now its been approved for many health regulators dont see how they will succeed.
No its not. Its the same principle.
You do realise the Astrazenica vaccine can be given over 65 as well? Working in the NHS I would know better. Again I suggest reading papers, and reputable sources. Still dont have a source what you are claiming, and still no answer if you ever had the flu vaccine.
What you are claiming is again untrue. Currently no mRna vaccine (Moderna and Pfizer) can be stored at room temp. You want to wait until a mRna vaccine that can be stored at room temp is approved? Another year of lockdowns?

The EU signed the contract 3 months later and its different to the basis which was agreed with the UK. Cant blame the company if they are slow to approve and slow to sign.
An analogy with the Pfizer vaccine. We are aware it has better efficacy. Its like Tesla who has superior electric cars. But because of the cost (and in the case of vaccine distribution as well) will you see Teslas everywhere? Answer is no, cheaper electric cars are more widely seen. They both help to combat climate change, like how both the vaccines are helping. Not everyone in the world can afford or roll out the Pfizer vaccine due to its logistics.
Thats not at best when different dosing regimens can give better efficacy. Its not just the trials generating more data, any vaccinne now is generating more data and tracked, all new drugs follow that process. The data is promising with the longer time between each dose increases efficacy and in time that data will be released. There is evidence in the papers efficacy changes with different factors, the MHRA has given it the figure on the strongest evidence yet but additional data is promising. Also I stress again its better than the flu vaccine and I presume you will never get vaccinated for the flu then? No news source to show it doesnt work against Brazilian variant?
You do realisw the UK makes most of its own batch here and fill it here. Theres always going to be teething issues with production and why would they prioritise the EU when its not approved for use yet?
