Shiner / Shorn, thanks for the replies. As you point out there are many factors that might affect the minimum grade we can process at a decent margin, there’s no easy answer. I was really interested to know how we might compare with Jetti but until they put some meat on the bones of their marketing we can’t know for sure but my guess is that we would be at the very least comparable based on what we know of Jubilee. Also we have quite a bit of a head start on them!

I don’t think I phrased my question very well, clearly Jubilee expect to make a good margin on ore with 0.35% copper, I was just wondering how much lower the grade can be before it becomes unprofitable. I guess we might get an idea from the tailings they chose to process (or not) in Cyprus.

Thanks Ella, yes that’s the same date currently assigned to the Handa license, I guess that will be updated at some point, unless they plan to apply for a large scale mining license for the whole area...

I noticed that the dates for the Handa license are now from 2014-2024 so I guess these were the dates for the Kalaba mining license.

I guess that would depend on the type of ore being processed so it would have to be a like-for-like comparison.

Does anyone know the minimum copper percentage Jubilee can process at a profit? The only figure I can see is the estimate for project Elephant which is around 0.35% so it’s clearly pretty low. It would be interesting to know how that compares to Jetti, I don’t see any figures quoted on their website and the article only quotes ‘well below 1%’.

I think with this kind of survey you need to have consistency of data over a large area in order to build a model of what is going on so it doesn’t surprise me that they are collecting so much data. Presumably it can be added to the previous survey to build up a more accurate picture. It doesn’t mean that they haven’t narrowed down the search areas.

If you have a look at this Anglo American airborne survey for the woodsmith polyhalite project near Whitby you can see the scale of the area that is being surveyed for that.

I think they said 5200 line km for the survey. If you take the distance from Fwiji to Chidi that’s about 30km and the width for the areas of interest is roughly 10km so with a line spacing of 50m that would be 6000 line km so I don’t think the quoted number is in the ball park of what I would expect.

I’d been thinking that the negotiations were either with respect to Fwiji or the Handa license area but it could of course be about both the Zaco AND Handa licenses, leaving us with Afrimin to explore further. With AAL’s recent announcement they are going to need all the assets they can get!

It’s a surprising development, I was thinking they had kept Kalaba separate because of the legal case but clearly that’s not the case and as NvS said in the investor call, they don’t have a leg to stand on regarding Zamsort. Does this mean that they are negotiating for the whole of the Handa license, including Kalaba?

It looks like the Zamsort License area at Kalaba has gone from the cadastre. I think it has been absorbed into the Handa Resources license area but might be wrong. They did say license changes were still a work in progress...

I noticed that NvS said in the IC that they were reorganising the licenses and that it is still a work in progress, so there may be more changes to come, which could indicate where negotiations are heading.

In reading up on Magna’s plans I saw that they plan to roll out the in-mirror DMS / OMS system from next year so we might have to look for the chunky rear view mirror for clues in upcoming models rather than just around the steering column!

It seems a bit of a leap to go from a mention of community projects to selling off assets cheaply. All companies working in these areas get involved with local communities, there’s nothing unusual in that. Obviously in Africa anything can happen but I see no indication that it will happen here.

You seem to be completely ignoring the wider market reaction... this had nothing to do with JLP specifically, that should be obvious. Nice to see you shoehorning in your usual comment on the spread though... I always look forward to that :-)

OK, I’ll obviously have to have another look at the license areas when the cadastre is up again. Confusing myself!

Is Fwiji not now on its own in the Afrimin license with the others in Handa / Zaco? The cadastre is down at the minute so I cant check but if that is the case I would say it does support a Fwiji only deal.

I think the community projects NvS mentioned were more to do with local infrastructure, schools, sanitation... that kind of thing.
